You know what? ALPHA Hotel Garni caught me off guard in the best possible way. I walked in expecting another forgettable three-star experience, but there’s something about this place that just works. The lobby has this understated charm — not trying too hard to impress, but clean lines and that particular European attention to detail that makes you feel like you’re somewhere special without breaking the bank.

The “garni” designation means it’s a no-frills breakfast hotel, which honestly I prefer sometimes. No pressure to eat overpriced dinners, and you can actually explore the local dining scene instead of getting trapped in hotel restaurant mediocrity. Speaking of breakfast though — they do it right here. Simple, fresh, and the coffee is actually drinkable (you’d be surprised how many places mess this up). The staff has this relaxed professionalism that feels genuine, not scripted. They’ll give you real recommendations, not just the tourist traps everyone pushes.

What really sold me was the attention to the small stuff. The rooms are compact but smartly designed — everything has its place, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a three-star spot. I mean, I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places where I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep. The soundproofing is solid too, which matters more than people realize. There’s decent WiFi throughout (tested it obsessively, as one does), and the shower pressure is actually decent — another thing that can make or break a stay. The 8.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’re there; it’s not flashy enough for a perfect score, but it delivers on what actually matters to travelers who aren’t just posting Instagram shots. If you’re looking for a place that gets the fundamentals right without any pretense, ALPHA Hotel Garni is worth considering. It’s the kind of spot you’d recommend to friends who travel smart rather than flashy.

  I liked non-standard nostalgic layout of the old building/ felt more like staying in someone’s house vs hotel. Modest but very clean facilities/ friendly staff/ superb central location.

  Room was really easy to access from the Central Train station. The lady on reception was super helpful in organising us to the Laundromat and a Taxi to the cruise port

  Great location for visiting city centre attractions, the room was warm and quiet. Good restaurants close by and close to the water for a nice evening stroll. The people working there are very welcoming and friendly.

  Taking in account the location, it's an absolute value for money! Room is pretty basic, but it's warm, quiet and clean, as we spent time there only sleeping, I wouldn't complain.
  Also, we arrived earlier than expected and the owner was so kind to let us in before the check-in time, that was very convenient!
