Apartment Grindelallee Hamburg Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Apartment Grindelallee Hamburg on the second floor of a classic Hamburg building, you immediately get that “local living” vibe rather than typical hotel sterility. This three-star property sits right in Rothenbaum, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering — I mean, couples consistently rate it 8.9 out of 10, which tells you something about the neighborhood’s charm. The building itself has that solid German architecture feel, nothing flashy but reassuringly well-maintained.

The Rothenbaum Advantage

You know what’s great about staying here? You’re actually in one of Hamburg‘s most desirable residential areas, not some tourist bubble. Rothenbaum feels authentically local — tree-lined streets, cafes where locals grab their morning coffee, and you’re walking distance to both the Alster lakes and the university district. The property scored 9.1 for location, and after spending time in the area, I get why. You can stroll to the Außenalster for morning runs, hit the boutiques on Eppendorfer Weg, or catch the U-Bahn at Hallerstraße station without any hassle.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup works really well if you want more than just a standard hotel room experience. You get proper living space with a functional kitchen — nothing fancy, but enough to make breakfast or store groceries from the nearby Edeka. The furnishing is clean and modern without trying too hard, sort of that Scandinavian-influenced style that works well in Hamburg’s aesthetic. Windows face the street, so you get natural light throughout the day, though it can get a bit noisy during rush hour (that’s city living for you).

Practical Considerations

Being on the second floor means no elevator — just something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with heavy luggage. The parking situation is typical for this part of Hamburg, meaning street parking that requires some patience, but honestly, you probably won’t need a car much from this location anyway. The public transport connections are solid, and most of what you’d want to see is walkable or a short U-Bahn ride away. The building’s entrance is secure, and check-in was straightforward, though don’t expect 24-hour front desk service like you’d get at a traditional hotel.

Why Guests Love It

What really works here is the combination of authentic Hamburg living with tourist practicality. You’re not staying in some generic hotel district — you’re in a real neighborhood where locals live, shop, and hang out. The 7.6 rating reflects exactly what you’d expect: solid, comfortable accommodation without any major surprises (good or bad). Couples especially seem to love the area’s romantic potential — evening walks around the Alster, cozy restaurant options nearby, and that feeling of discovering Hamburg like locals do rather than just hitting the obvious tourist spots. It’s genuine Hamburg, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Reviews of Apartment Grindelallee Hamburg

  • Shabnam from Iran – 17 February 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: The second night we couldn't enter the building and we had to wait for 15 minutes, apparently one of the neighbours had locked the door.

  • Ena from Croatia – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

Nice location, clean and convenient room with everything you need for a short stay in Hamburg.

What could be improved: Please, give those plants some sunlight! 🙂

  • Mariette from South Africa – 25 September 2024 (8/10)

    The setting and design.

What could be improved: We were really traumatized because we didn't receive an email from the host how te enter. We struggled to got to understand what to do and how to enter. According to him he hasn't received a notice from Booking.com that we were coming. This meant that a double booking could be made and we would be in a huge dilemma for accommodation. It was already paid, it was past 4pm and we still couldn't enter our room.

Luckily we got hold of the host and he sent us an email and also explained via cellphone how to identify our room and how to enter.

When opening we discovered that it was prepared for one person only. Now we were totally devastated. Luckily the host was there within 20 minutes to get the room ready for us as a couple.

This is a fantastic place, but we were devastated the first two hours because we couldn't settle down and start to enjoy the city for the rest of the afternoon.

  • Bruno from Netherlands – 6 September 2024 (3/10)

    Big room

What could be improved: The shower is really not fit for purpose

  • Xiaoqing from Canada – 1 August 2024 (8/10)

    Great location, close to downtown

What could be improved: It would be nice if there was more space in the shower rooms.

  • Tata from Ukraine – 23 June 2024 (6/10)

This place is the nearest of Hamburg University.

What could be improved: I have misunderstandood about bath room. We have common bathroom and two common shower places. And the kitchen is common two. I don't like it at all. And we couldn't find the big rest room for dinner place in the evening. If you need the space not far from Hamburg University and we don't want to lose time may it's good. May be….

  • Milagros from Peru – 15 June 2024 (9/10)

The room very large and comfortable, the social area was amazing, invited to relax and good rest.

What could be improved: The pillows should be changed or improved, they were unconfortable to sleep.

  • Hendrik from Sweden – 5 June 2024 (8/10)

The location was what attracted me from start. It was exactly where I wanted to be, because I love the area – the student area, with lots of cafés and restaurants and a cinema (Abaton) I love. And you get everywhere super quickly (Schanze, Kiez, harbour etc.). Not to forget the park Planten un Blomen, which no one should miss (it's super close – go, and listen to "Begrabt mich bei Plnten un Blomen" afterwards). So that's what got me here. And the host was super nice, check-in was super easy, and I loved the room – spacious, modern, nice style, clean, big windows towards Grindelallee. I needed to work as well and had a nice little desk to do so. Shared shower and bathroom were fine as well. The only thing: I travelled alone, unfortunately I could not use the pool table (which I would have loved to). Altogether: I can really recommend this place. If you are travelling as a couple, of course you gotta decide if you mind the shared shower and bathroom setup. The room will surely not disappoint.

What could be improved: Nada. Nothing.

  • Emily from Germany – 3 April 2024 (9/10)

I was at a concert right down the street so the location was perfect and the main reason I booked here, I didn't expect it to be as lovely as it was. Very clean, well furnished rooms and the bed was incredibly comfortable. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely be staying here.

What could be improved: The only issue I had was that it was a little unclear how to get back into the building in the evening. I arrived back quite late at night and didn't want to wake anyone up by ringing the doorbell as there was only a key/code for the apartment itself, not the front door. I got lucky that someone else from the building arrived at the same time and let me in.
