You know what struck me first about the Arbio I Duxen Apartments near Hagenbeck Zoo? It’s actually in one of those quiet Hamburg neighborhoods where you can hear the lions roar on calm evenings – I mean, how wild is that? The building itself is pretty understated, sort of blends into the residential street in a way that makes you feel like you’re staying where locals actually live, not in some tourist bubble.

The apartments are honestly more spacious than I expected for a 3-star place. Mine had this little kitchenette that was perfect for making coffee in the morning (the German coffee culture is no joke, by the way), and the living area actually felt lived-in rather than sterile. The furniture’s not fancy – think IKEA meets grandmother’s house – but everything works and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. What I really appreciated was the decent-sized bathroom; you’d be surprised how many European apartments skimp on that. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out Hamburg’s public transport system.

Here’s the thing about the location – it’s brilliant if you know how to work it. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Reeperbahn or the harbor, but the U-Bahn connection is actually pretty smooth once you get the hang of it. Plus, being near Hagenbeck means you’re in Stellingen, which feels more authentic Hamburg to me. There’s this great little bakery about two blocks away where the woman behind the counter remembered my order by day three (I may have developed a serious pretzel habit). The zoo itself is obviously right there, but honestly, even if you’re not into animals, the whole area has this laid-back family vibe that’s refreshing after dealing with city center crowds. Parking was surprisingly manageable – not free, but not the nightmare I’d braced myself for. The check-in process was straightforward, though the front desk keeps pretty standard hours, so don’t roll up at midnight expecting someone to be there. Overall, it’s one of those places that delivers exactly what it promises without any fancy extras, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not going to blow your mind, but you’ll sleep well and feel like you got your money’s worth.

  Nice small apartment, perfect for one or two nights.
  
  What could be improved: There is no possibilities to controlle the heating inside. It was very hot inside despite open windows.

  the room was clean, very quiet building feels like home, you got whatever you may need in room. it's close to Bus Station and in walking distance of U-Bahn
  
  What could be improved: I wish we could have some COMPLIMENTARY bottles of water and few coffee capsules in room. we arrived at night and every shop was closed had no chance to buy anything for the first day.

  This apartment is walking distance to the U-Bahn and also a little supermarket where you can pick up supplies if needed. The apartment had everything you would need and was very comfortable. If I needed anything the host was quick to get back to me and very helpful.
