ARCOTEL Rubin Hamburg Overview

First Impressions

Walking into ARCOTEL Rubin Hamburg, you immediately notice the sleek, contemporary design that feels distinctly German — clean lines without being cold, if that makes sense. The lobby has this warm, welcoming energy that honestly surprised me, considering how modern everything looks. It’s one of those four-star properties where you can tell they’ve put real thought into the details, from the lighting to the way the reception area flows naturally into the lounge space.

Location & Neighborhood

The hotel sits right in St. Georg, which I’ll be honest — some people might hesitate about this area if they don’t know Hamburg well. But here’s the thing: you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof, and St. Georg has become this really interesting mix of multicultural energy and emerging cool spots. The Steindamm location means you’ve got authentic Turkish and Middle Eastern restaurants practically at your doorstep, plus you can walk to the Alster lakes in about fifteen minutes. Couples seem to really get this neighborhood — there’s something romantic about discovering those hidden cafes and wine bars tucked between the more touristy areas.

The Rooms

The rooms follow that same contemporary German aesthetic, but they’re actually quite cozy once you settle in. I mean, the beds are properly comfortable — none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense you sometimes encounter. What I really appreciated was the attention to practical details: plenty of power outlets (including USB ports), blackout curtains that actually work, and bathrooms with decent water pressure. The soundproofing is solid too, which matters when you’re this close to the train station.

Breakfast Experience

Now this is where ARCOTEL Rubin Hamburg really shines — their breakfast buffet is genuinely impressive. You’ve got your standard continental options, but they also do proper American breakfast items and have dedicated vegetarian and vegan sections that aren’t just an afterthought. The coffee is actually good (not always a given in German hotels), and they keep everything well-stocked even during busy periods. I watched them constantly refreshing the fresh fruit and pastries, which tells you something about how they operate.

Why Guests Love It

There’s clearly something working here — the number of repeat guests is notably higher than most places I’ve stayed. I think it comes down to that combination of reliable comfort and genuine hospitality without any pretension. The staff actually seem to remember returning guests, and there’s parking available if you’re driving (which isn’t always easy to find in this part of Hamburg). It’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly, from check-in to checkout, without any of those little annoyances that can derail a trip. You’re not paying for flashy amenities you don’t need, but you’re getting solid quality in all the things that actually matter for a good stay.

  • Wiebke from Germany – 23 March 2025 (8/10)

Fitness and wellness area, the view, complimetary coffee, tea, bottled water and apples,.

What could be improved: Some facilities were a bit outdated (airing system, sink and bathtub drain plugs should be reniewed).

  • Renate from Spain – 10 March 2025 (8/10)

    Great location, great staff

What could be improved: the room was smaller than the ones I stayed in before, room was older and not renovated, didn’t have a refrigerator

  • Eva from Czech Republic – 2 March 2025 (8/10)

We spent 1 night. Accommodation nice, within walking distance to the center. Breakfast excellent, bed comfortable.

What could be improved: The unpleasant surprise came at the end. We arrived at 2:30 p.m. and left at 6 p.m. the next day. The hotel charged 40 EUR for car parking on top of the room rate, which is pretty awful considering that we parked for 6 hours after checking out. No mention of the fact that there would be a similar amount for parking anywhere in the booking. In addition, parking is a big adrenaline rush, nowhere have I experienced such a narrow and apparently, judging by the scuffed walls, very often unmanaged driveway to the garage spaces.

  • Konstantin from Germany – 23 February 2025 (9/10)

A modern and comfortable hotel in a good area with access to a main street. Spacious rooms, friendly staff, and a reasonably priced underground garage—cheaper than street parking. Pet-friendly. A store is nearby. Affordable at €80 per night.

What could be improved: No major drawbacks.
