The location is actually pretty brilliant if you want to be close to the Alster without paying those insane Harvestehude prices. You’re walking distance from the water – maybe ten minutes if you’re not rushing – and there’s this whole network of quiet residential streets that locals use to cut through to the nicer parts of town. I found myself taking these little detours just because the tree-lined blocks were so much more pleasant than the main drags. The suite itself lives up to that 4-star rating without trying too hard, which I appreciated. Everything’s done in these rich, dark tones (hence the “black” theme, I suppose) but it doesn’t feel heavy or pretentious. The bathroom was genuinely impressive – one of those rain showers that actually has decent pressure, and they’d stocked it with products that didn’t smell like generic hotel soap. Small thing, but you notice it when you’re getting ready for dinner.

What really sold me on the place was how quiet it stayed, even on weekends. Hamburg can get pretty lively, especially when the weather’s nice and everyone’s heading to the Alster for drinks, but somehow this spot manages to feel removed from all that chaos. I think it’s because you’re just far enough from the main action – close enough to walk to Jungfernstieg or the Rathaus when you want to, but tucked away on streets where actual people live their lives. The 8.0 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind with revolutionary design or over-the-top service, but everything works exactly as it should. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi didn’t cut out during my video calls (always a concern), and I never had to call the front desk about anything broken or missing. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that just gets out of your way and lets you enjoy being in Hamburg. Plus, if you’re someone who likes to jog or walk in the mornings, being this close to the Alster means you can slip out early and have those waterside paths mostly to yourself before the day-trippers show up.
