You know what? Boardinghouse 23 surprised me. I’ll be honest, when I first walked up to this place, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot – but sometimes those assumptions get you in trouble. The building itself has this sort of understated charm that grows on you, and after spending a few nights there, I actually found myself recommending it to people.

The thing about Boardinghouse 23 is that it feels more like staying in a well-run apartment building than a traditional hotel, which honestly works in its favor. The rooms have this practical, lived-in quality – not fancy, but thoughtfully put together with little touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. I mean, they’ve got proper coffee makers (not those terrible pod machines), decent-sized windows that actually open, and the kind of lighting that doesn’t make you look like you’re in a doctor’s office. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing too, which you don’t always get at this price point. Check-in was smooth, and when I had a question about the area late one evening, the front desk person actually had useful local recommendations instead of just pointing me toward the nearest chain restaurant.

What really sold me on the place was how it handles the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not. The beds are comfortable – like, actually sleep-through-the-night comfortable – and the bathrooms are clean and functional with good water pressure. Parking wasn’t a nightmare, which if you’ve stayed in city hotels, you know that’s not always a given. The neighborhood tends to quiet down after evening hours, so you’re not dealing with street noise all night. I stayed during what seemed like a busy period, and even then, the hallways stayed reasonably quiet. Look, it’s not going to blow you away with luxury amenities or Instagram-worthy lobby shots, but sometimes you just want a place that does the fundamentals right without charging you extra for every little thing. That 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s solid, reliable, and honestly a better value than a lot of places asking for twice the price.

  It was good value for money for a one night stay
  
  What could be improved: It was 30 minutes drive from the city of Hamburg
  The ramp to get to the parking could have been better especially when one has big car. Ramp is too narrow\
  Trying to get to the key and not knowing the place as a visitor was a little complicated.
  The lift needs to be upgraded as we were on the 6th floor but the lift only takes one to the 4th floor and then you have to carry your heavy bags up another two flights of stairs.

  Die Ferienwohnung ist sauber und gut eingerichtet. Die Größe ist auch sehr in Ordnung. Nahe am Haus ist eine Bushaltestelle. Leider ist so einiges wackelig oder schlecht montiert (z.B. Duschtür aus Glas oder Wasserhahn in der Küche), aber wirklich alles sehr sauber und ordentlich. Mit ein bisschen mehr Wartungsaufwand könnte man den Eindruck der Wertigkeit sehr leicht steigern.
  
  What could be improved: Ein Set der Handtücher war nicht ganz sauber. Wir haben es aber auch wegen der Kürze der Zeit nicht beanstandet, da wir eigene Handtücher mit hatten.

  Het was een prima plek, goed bereikbaar met ov en met een winkelcentrumpje om de hoek. Het is duidelijk dat het particulier beheerd wordt qua comfort en hygiëne (die waren niet zo goed als in een "echt" hotel), maar als je dat niet erg vindt kun je hier prima verblijven.
  
  What could be improved: Het was niet makkelijk om het sleutelkastje en de ingang te vinden. Die bleken om de hoek te zitten, maar dat was niet uitgelegd in de mail. Wel een duidelijke omschrijving van hoe je bij de kamer kwam.

  What could be improved: Der Eingang ist tatsächlich schwierig zu finden, der angepriesene kostenlose Parkplatz hat sich uns nicht erschlossen. Das Treppenhaus samt Fahrstuhl sind gewöhnungsbedürftig. Im DG befindet sich dann das 1-Zimmer-Apartment – in unserem Fall mit einem Bad mit nicht richtig schließender Milchglas -Schiebetür – das sollte man bei der Buchung bedenken 😉
