Hammerbrook isn’t exactly the tourist center of Hamburg, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re close enough to the action without dealing with the crowds and noise that come with staying right in the Altstadt. The area has this quiet, residential vibe during the day, and I found it pretty easy to get into the city center when I wanted to explore. What really sold me on this place though was the parking situation — finding free on-site parking in Hamburg is like striking gold, especially when you’re traveling with a car.

The Space Itself

The two-room setup works really well, particularly if you’re traveling as a couple (which seems to be the sweet spot for this place, based on what I observed). The main room has enough space to actually relax without feeling cramped, and the separate bedroom means you can spread out your stuff without everything looking like a tornado hit it. The kitchen is compact but functional — I managed to make coffee in the mornings and even put together a simple dinner one night when I didn’t feel like going out.

What Makes It Work

There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try to be fancy but just focuses on being comfortable. The furniture feels sturdy rather than stylish, and everything you need is there without unnecessary frills. I appreciated having actual counter space and a proper table where I could spread out my laptop and maps. The whole place has this unpretentious, practical German approach that I found pretty appealing — no marble bathrooms or designer lighting, just clean, functional spaces that work.

Why Guests Love It

Honestly, this isn’t the kind of place you’ll be posting Instagram photos from, but it’s exactly what you want when you need a reliable base for exploring Hamburg. Couples seem to particularly appreciate having the extra space and privacy that comes with an apartment setup, plus the ability to save money by preparing some of your own meals. The free parking alone probably saves you 15-20 euros a day compared to other options in the city, and that adds up quickly. It’s the kind of practical choice that lets you spend your money on experiences rather than accommodation extras you don’t really need.

  Nothing, it is UNSAFE apartment and area, do not go there.. it is like Ghost apartment, very bad communications with the host, we booked as a family for 4 days, fully paid, we arrived late and hardly slept, my daughters were very scared and feeling unsafe because their room was connected to the outside with glass door.. then, we left the apartment the next morning and spoke to Booking.com to complain but they ignored our calls and their calls.. was very bad experience…

  Apartments ist in einem Industriegebiet und in einem Lagergebäude. Daher war es dementsprechend überraschend urban. Es schien so, als wurde nachts dort gearbeitet.

  2.There was no washing machine and no AC.
  3.There was no kitchen basics (salt, coffee, tea, etc)
  4.There was not enough toilet/tissue papers and no detergents, also not enough towels.
  5.The fact that it is located in an industrial compound, feels isolated and does not provide sense of safety.
  6.No fly screen: we saw cockroaches and ants.

  NOTHING!!! WE COULDN'T STAY THERE! WE HAD 2 KIDS WITH US AND THEY WERE AFRAID OF RATS!

  What could be improved: Together with my friend and 2 kids we departed for our Wonderland adventure – we dreamed about nice family space, where You could spend time together.
  But this place, was nothing like expected – felt we couldn’t stay there – literally BEHIND THE BARS!
  Rat traps, trash everywhere. Man, who helped us find the garage (called “the apartment”) told us, that nobody ever stayed there and that they lock the gate after 6pm while leaving for the weekend. It was impossible to contact HOMARIS – we just got a text massage but with no possibility to call them back.
  Knowing the above with 2 kids we simply run away – to the family room in Novotel for 394 Euro.
  It says the apartment is "cosy" – You can see the cosines in the pictures I took. It also says that the apartment is 80 m2 – which is unfortunately another lie.
  It’s and industrial zone, and you will stay in the workshop of some kind with the risk of not being able to leave after 6 pm.
  Neither Homaris nor Booking felt responsible for the situation – we didn’t get a refund.

  What could be improved: schlechte Beschreibung, wo geparkt werden kann und wie man die Wohnung genau erreicht (der Eingang nicht nicht so einfach zu finden). die Wohnung sah etwas anders aus als auf den Fotos (Sitzkissen auf der Bank fehlten beispielsweise). Außerdem fehlt in der Küche ein Pfannenwender.
