You know what struck me first about the Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg City? It’s actually got that perfect balance of business-hotel efficiency without feeling sterile – which honestly is harder to find than you’d think in Hamburg’s hotel scene. I mean, this is a 4-star property that knows exactly what it is, and it delivers on that promise without trying to be something fancy it’s not.

The location is genuinely solid – you’re in the thick of Hamburg’s business district, but here’s the thing locals know: you’re close enough to walk to the Speicherstadt (those gorgeous red-brick warehouses) in about fifteen minutes if you’re feeling ambitious. The staff actually seemed to understand the city well when I asked about getting to the fish market early Sunday morning, which, let me tell you, is not always a given at chain hotels. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the lobby has this modern-but-warm vibe that doesn’t feel like every other Marriott you’ve been in. The rooms are what you’d expect – clean, well-designed, with those signature Marriott beds that are honestly pretty great after a day of walking around Hamburg’s cobblestone streets. I appreciated that the blackout curtains actually worked (you’d be surprised how often they don’t), and the bathroom was spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows with your travel companion.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to the small stuff – the Wi-Fi is legitimately fast, which matters if you’re trying to upload photos of the Elbphilharmonie or catch up on work. The breakfast area gets busy around 8 AM with the business crowd, but if you time it right at 7:30 or after 9, you’ll have a much more relaxed experience. I also noticed they keep the common areas at just the right temperature – not that aggressive air conditioning that makes you need a sweater indoors. The fitness center is decent sized and actually has equipment that works, plus it stays open late for those jet-lag workout sessions. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with quirky local charm or Michelin-starred dining, but sometimes you want a place that just works really well. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of hotel where everything functions smoothly, the staff knows their job, and you can focus on exploring Hamburg instead of dealing with hotel nonsense. Plus, parking is available (though not cheap – this is Hamburg city center after all), and you’re positioned well for both business meetings and weekend wandering through the Altstadt.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

  – location isn’t the best as if you need to go to the town centre then it’s an easy 18 min walk

  The Courtyard is ideally located for visiting Hamburg – the area has lots of restaurants, bars and shops and is a stone's throw from the underground. The hotel is comfortable and well-priced.
