Das Hanse Quartier Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Das Hanse Quartier, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream “boutique hotel” from the outside. This three-star property sits along Wandsbeker Chaussee in a quieter part of Hamburg, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re not dealing with the tourist crowds here, but you’re still well-connected to everything that matters. The building has this understated, almost residential feel that immediately puts you at ease.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I really appreciated about the location — you’re in Wandsbek, which means you get a genuine slice of Hamburg life without the inflated prices of the city center. The U-Bahn connections are solid, and I found myself in the Speicherstadt or around the Alster in about 20 minutes. What’s even better is the parking situation — they actually have private spots on-site, which anyone who’s tried to park in Hamburg will tell you is worth its weight in gold.
The Room Experience
My room was clean and functional, though I wouldn’t call it fancy. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space for a longer stay. You know what surprised me? The soundproofing is actually pretty good — I expected street noise from the Chaussee, but it was quieter than I anticipated. The bathroom is compact but well-designed, and the shower has proper water pressure (always a relief after a long day of walking around the city).
Practical Perks
The staff here really knows their stuff when it comes to local recommendations. I mean, they pointed me toward this fantastic fish market route that I never would have found on my own. Breakfast is straightforward — nothing elaborate, but it gets the job done with good coffee and fresh bread. The whole operation feels efficiently run without being impersonal, which is harder to achieve than you might think. There’s also a small kitchenette available in select accommodations for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals during extended stays.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Das Hanse Quartier apart is how it works for couples looking for a genuine Hamburg experience. The neighborhood has this authentic feel — you’ll find local cafes, small shops, and actual Hamburg residents going about their daily lives. It’s not a tourist bubble, but it’s not inconvenient either. The combination of reasonable rates, reliable service, and that private parking makes it particularly appealing if you’re exploring beyond just the city center. Plus, the fact that couples consistently rate it highly tells you something about the atmosphere — it’s relaxed enough for a romantic getaway without being stuffy or overly formal. The restaurant recommendations from staff are invaluable for discovering authentic local dining experiences.
Hotels in Hamburg weave Speicherstadt warehouses, Elbphilharmonie sails, and canals lined with brick arches.

Reviews of Das Hanse Quartier
Rowan from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (7/10)
Very clean and tidy apartment. Excellent for transport connections. Requested extra pillows from the owners and they were provided. Key code locks were a bit fiddly to understand but once we figured them out, they weren't a problem.
Taxi to accommodation was very welcome as we arrived in the evening when it was dark.
What could be improved: A bit small but we were basically just sleeping there, no more. Otherwise, it was good.Tammam from Syria – 18 February 2025 (8/10)
The place is beautiful and pleasant.
The studio I rented was lovely and simple, and most importantly, noticeably clean.
The owner is a very kind and cooperative person. The price is reasonable, and the place is very close to the train and metro station.
Highly recommended for a quiet and pleasant stay.
I stayed for four days and did not experience any issues.

Location was convenient to public transport and the main train station. The studio apartment was clean and comfortable, but not spacious. Access was through a code and this was shared via message – we did not interact with any staff on site.
Marita from Latvia – 2 April 2024 (9/10)
Location very good, near metro, food store, cafe, shopping. 10 min with metro to center. kitchen has dishes and a microwave. Bed is comfy, the apartment is clean, a little complicated to enter and door code, but we managed. For this price is very good. If you are not very demanding, I recommend it. Thank you.
What could be improved: The apartment is located on a big street and is noisy, but you can sleep with the windows closed. The apartment is on the first floor very low.Jennifer from United Kingdom – 1 July 2023 (8/10)
The accommodation is very convenient for visting centre of Hamburg. Note the S1 from Hamburg Airport goes to where this property is located. Note the U1 metro is located a few metres from the S1 train station and the metro takes one to centre of Hamburg. There is a good supermarket 3 minutes walk from the property and the site itself is located in a very quiet area.
Owner of property was very welcoming and attentative.
What could be improved: Bed was a little uncomfortable but not a huge problem. Otherwise no problems whatsoever.Russell from United Kingdom – 30 June 2023 (7/10)
Access to room was by door access codes: after some initial confusion, there was no problem. The room was a converted shop with original shop window (mostly opaque!) directly onto the footpath on a main road. Coffee and herbal teas were provided, coffeemaker and kettle. The location was OK in a suburb close to S- and U-bahn stations about 10 minutes from Hauptbahnof, 15 from airport or Landungsbrucken. Shops, cafes, takeaways and restos and two supermarkets (Edeka – large, Netto -small) close by. Bed comfortable and shower fine. A minimum level of self-catering is possible: fridge, microwave and just enough crockery for two. A bit functional perhaps but probably fair value for money comparatively. If you rent a bike the room is only 5km (15 minutes) from the middle of town and an easy ride. Wi-fi fine.
What could be improved: Strange airconditioning system that was noisy but unnecessary. Odd heater(?) on wheels that looked past its sell-by date (see photograph). Nowhere to hand the teatowel in the kitchenette area or the handtowel in the bathroom. Noise from closeness of the room to footpath and road is less than might be expected but might worry some people – it didn't bother me, though. The shower was just big enough for me – I am 5' 10" and about 80kg: I would think that anyone much larger would be unable to get through the foldback doors. Some maintenance required -tile coming away from shower surround, TV remote not working, no aerial on the radio so not working. No bedside table but aircon unit acts as this on one side. No bedside light or lightswitch so you have to get out of bed to turn off the light.Raya from Belgium – 23 May 2023 (8/10)
The location and the price were great.
Jan from Czech Republic – 2 December 2022 (8/10)
The host was extremely nice and helpful!
Diane from United States – 28 September 2022 (8/10)
Great location, kitchenette.
What could be improved: Some of the remodeling didn’t work too well.Eirik from Norway – 21 July 2022 (9/10)
What could be improved: Fridge got turned on the moment we arrived, so it took some time for it to reach desired temperature. Other than that no complaints about service.
