Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ferienwohnungen Marienthal, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The name sounds pretty fancy, but it’s actually this really charming collection of apartment-style accommodations that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than in some sterile hotel chain. You know what I mean? There’s something refreshing about having your own little space with a proper kitchenette and room to actually spread out your stuff.

What really won me over was how the whole setup just works for real travelers. I mean, you’ve got actual counter space in the kitchen – not one of those joke mini-fridges with a hot plate on top – so you can grab groceries and make breakfast without feeling like you’re performing surgery in a shoebox. The apartments themselves have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, with decent-sized windows that actually open (revolutionary concept, right?) and furniture that doesn’t look like it came from the same catalog as every other budget hotel. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well.

Honestly, the whole experience feels surprisingly personal for a 3-star place. Check-in was straightforward, parking wasn’t the usual nightmare you’d expect, and the noise levels were actually reasonable – I could hear my neighbor’s TV faintly, but nothing that kept me up. What impressed me most was the attention to practical details that frequent travelers actually care about. Good water pressure in the shower, reliable WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and enough electrical outlets that you’re not playing musical chairs with your phone charger and laptop cord. It’s the kind of place where you can tell someone actually thought about what guests need day-to-day, rather than just what looks good in photos. If you’re the type who prefers having your own space over fancy lobby marble and turndown service you’ll never use anyway, Marienthal really delivers on that front.

  Location was excellent, the apartment was so well thought out and big. the kitchen we massive and very well equipped. We had our own entrance and felt really secure. Parking outside was really good, we could see the car all the time. Only 5 mins walk from the metro and really quick into downtown. Hosts emails and info were really good. Cannot fault this apartment, its been the best on our trip so far.
  
  What could be improved: Beds could have been pushed together to make a double, and if was difficult to know where the bins were. Maybe this could be put in the instructions. In the end I had to go and find someone's bin to put the rubbish in at the end of the stay, but that's a minor niggle.

  The apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean, and had a well appointed kitchen (microwave, full oven, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine). A large bathroom, shower was excellent. Beds were really comfortable and although close to a busy road, the apartment seemed pretty well sound proofed. Great location – a short walk from the U-Bahn (Wandsbek Markt), there’s an Aldi in the shopping centre near the station.
  
  What could be improved: We never managed to get wi-fi working.
  A minor point but mirrors in the bedrooms would have been appreciated and easily rectified.

  Perfect location near transport options to city centre (Wandsbek Markt.) and airport (via S1 about 30 mins). It's close to a shopping centre with ALDI which was useful for picking up essentials. Clean and spacious with very comfortable beds.
  
  One of our kids had a bit of an accident and the host very quickly arranged everything to sort it out without us needing to be there, with good communication throughout.
  
  Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
  
  What could be improved: Only one dishwasher tablet.

  Very nice and clean appartement. We found everything we needed. Great location and very close to restaurants, shopping facilities and public transportation. We definitely consider staying there again.
  
  What could be improved: Realy nothing to complain about the appartement itself and we got used to the Hamburg weather this time in the year 🙂

  It was all very nice, and clean.
  Also the host is friendly and reactive.
  
  What could be improved: Simply the WLAN / WiFi is a desaster and completely unstable.
  I am in IT and Network administrator – so I think I can make a valueable comment.
  The standard WLAN was not working at all.
  The host offered me a different one, but even this one was on the limits.
  In my opinion they should build in a proper WiFi into the house, and not this "home rubish" repeaters, which always cause troubles. Especially when you are in Hamburg and have a certain pricing, this is in todays world standard that there is a proper, stable and fast WiFi

  Very welcoming and very nice staff.
  Large, quiet and warm apartment (no. 7), with very good and all facilities needed in a house.
  Near the building there are located two free big parking places where is easy to find a parking spot.
  Closely from shopping area and restaurants (500-700m).
  
  What could be improved: Some issues with Wi-Fi which I think was solved after my leaving.

  Well located comfortable apartment close to metro and shops. The apartment had everything we needed for a good stay.
  
  What could be improved: Internet wouldn't work when we first arrived but Uta was proactive at getting it fixed. Apartment was very hot and needed ventilating every time we were home.

  The rooms were very clean, the beds really comfortable and the location is great.
  
  Despite being almost right next to a main road, the only real noise is in the morning, but even that is bearable with the doors closed.
  
  What could be improved: The description said free Wi-Fi. Technically correct, except it probably only works on the ground floor and first floor.
  We were on the 2nd floor and the WiFi there was only reachable in one corner of the room and even there only with 0-2 (out of the usual 5) bars and constantly disconnected. It was unusable, we had to use our phones' roaming.
  
  We asked via the messaging site the host sent us (smoobu) where to find the recycling places. As well as on booking.com. No answer during our entire stay. That is just unacceptable.
  Luckily, we happened upon the cleaning staff, who was very nice and could answer our questions – but that was just luck.
  
  The kitchen is described as "fully equipped", but there are for example no scissors, no brush for cleaning the dishes (only a tiny sponge which is a problem eg if you have a skin condition), one (!!!) small fork, no spices at all besides salt and sugar. And the kitchen table is laughably tiny – while there would be more than enough space for a proper kitchen table.
  This kitchen has the absolute minimum of equipment and is by no means "fully equipped".
  
  All in all, simply not worth the price range of ~100€/night.
