Hotel Description
You know what? The Garner Hotel Hamburg Nord isn’t going to blow your mind, but honestly, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’ve stayed here a couple times when visiting Hamburg, and it’s got this refreshingly straightforward vibe – like they’re not trying to be something they’re not. It’s a solid 3-star that actually feels like a proper 3-star, if that makes sense.
The location in Hamburg Nord is pretty smart, actually. You’re away from the tourist chaos of the Speicherstadt and St. Pauli (which can get exhausting after a while), but you’re still well-connected to everything that matters. The U-Bahn connections are decent – I mean, you’re not stepping out your door onto the Reeperbahn, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that I really appreciate; there’s a good bakery about a five-minute walk away that locals actually use, and you’ll find yourself sharing the sidewalks with people heading to work rather than clusters of tourists with matching backpacks.
What struck me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the city. The front desk guy (I think his name was Klaus?) gave me directions to this fantastic fish market spot that wasn’t Fischmarkt – somewhere the locals go on weekdays. That 7.4 rating feels about right; it’s not perfect, but the imperfections are minor things like the hallway carpeting that’s seen better days and shower pressure that’s adequate rather than amazing. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, with that slightly generic but pleasant IHG aesthetic. You get what you expect – decent Wi-Fi, a TV that actually works, and blackout curtains that do their job. The beds are surprisingly good, honestly. I’m picky about mattresses, and I slept well both times I stayed.
The breakfast situation is pretty typical continental fare, but they do this thing with local honey that’s actually worth getting up for. And here’s something I appreciated – the place stays reasonably quiet even when it’s full. The walls aren’t paper-thin like some chain hotels, so you won’t be listening to your neighbor’s entire phone conversation or their morning routine. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in the area, but the hotel staff pointed me toward a public lot that wasn’t too expensive by Hamburg standards. Check-in was smooth both times – no drama, no waiting around, just efficient and friendly service. It’s the kind of place where you can tell the management actually cares about the guest experience without making a huge production out of it. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy luxury, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a comfortable base for exploring Hamburg without the premium price tag – and honestly, without the pretension – the Garner delivers exactly what it promises.
Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

Contrary to some reviews, the hotel is good, adequate for staying. Modern look, no lavish spaces that are never used either. They fit the purpose, time to relax, parking space and a decent breakfast.
Very attentive staff.Adadr from Croatia – 7 April 2024 (8/10)
The decor was nice , as well as breakfast facilities were good
What could be improved: The room is tiny, no place for suitcases, in bathroom no hook for clothes or towelsAndrej from Norway – 5 January 2024 (8/10)
Nice and clean room, easy access 24/7 , really appreciate later breakfast ( until 10:30) and later checkout (12:00) as we arrived late in the night . Good breakfast included. Great value for the money.

Breakfast was excellent
Monika from Czech Republic – 30 October 2022 (6/10)
Nice clean hotel. Lot of parking places around the building.
What could be improved: Even tho this hotel says that their staff speaks English – on my arrival, two guys doing my check in did speak to me in German, even when I was speaking English to them. When I kindly asked them to speak English to me, they were really arrogant and were gossiping us in German. (I do understand German but prefer English to speak instead). As "international" hotel I would await kind performance from hotel staff in both international languages.Mariia from Ukraine – 2 August 2022 (8/10)
The hotel for its price is lovely, the staff are friendly. There were no smells in the room, everything was clean and refurbished, there was no mould or fungus in the bathroom. Everything is of the highest standard.
The breakfast was also good, simple but tasteful.
What could be improved: The good thing about the hotel is that it is close to the train station, but the area is unfortunately not safe. However, with so many advantages of the hotel, this disadvantage pales into insignificance.Abigail from Germany – 7 July 2022 (7/10)
i liked the fact breakfast was included in the price.
What could be improved: the location was really terrible for me personally cause I had to use public transport and it took about 50mins to 1 hour to get to the main central station. it was quite a distanceSlobodina from Germany – 3 July 2022 (7/10)
