You know what? Hamburg City Center Apartment caught me completely off guard – in the best way possible. I’ll be honest, when I first saw it listed as a 3-star place, I wasn’t expecting much beyond the basics. But walking into this spot, there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it that actually works really well for Hamburg.

The thing about staying here is that you’re genuinely living like a local for a few days, not just passing through in some sterile hotel bubble. The apartment setup means you’ve got a proper kitchen (thank god, because Hamburg’s restaurant prices can add up fast), and I actually found myself grabbing fresh bread from the bakeries nearby most mornings – there’s this incredible smell of pretzels and coffee that drifts up from the street level that honestly beats any hotel breakfast buffet. The space itself feels lived-in but clean, sort of like staying at a well-organized friend’s place. Nothing fancy, but everything you need is there, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. I mean, after walking around Hamburg’s cobblestone streets all day, you really appreciate a decent mattress.

What really sold me on this place though was the location – and I don’t mean that in some generic “convenient location” way that every hotel claims. You’re actually in the thick of things here, close enough to hear the occasional tram rumbling by (which I found oddly comforting, not annoying), and you can walk to the Alster in about ten minutes when you need to escape the city buzz. The neighborhood has that authentic Hamburg energy – locals heading to work, street musicians setting up in the evenings, and plenty of those cozy corner pubs where you can nurse a beer and practice your German with friendly strangers. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, but honestly, you won’t need a car much from this spot. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward hotel lobby hovering while they find your reservation. Just practical, efficient, very Hamburg. Sure, it’s not going to win any luxury awards, but that 8.3 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve spent a night or two here. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city rather than just visiting it.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

  What could be improved: A deposit of 150 euros *must* be clearly mentioned in the listing under "The Fine Print"! It’s unacceptable to surprise customers with this requirement after they’ve booked a non-refundable reservation. When I received the deposit request, I wanted to cancel, but my booking was non-refundable.
  
  The check-out time is 10 AM, and check-in is at 4 PM. In my 15 years of booking hotels and apartments worldwide, I’ve never encountered such an early check-out time. Additionally, they don’t offer the option to pay extra for a late check-out if 24 hours have passed since the check-out time. This lack of flexibility is frustrating. To make matters worse, they even call you at 10 AM to confirm if you’ve checked out, which feels intrusive and unfriendly.
  
  The kitchen lacks basic essentials like salt, and the bathroom was missing shower gel and shampoo – the dispensers were empty.

  The apartment itself is great. Big TV in front of sofa is a plus. Comfortable beds. Location is great.
  
  What could be improved: While the full sum for the rent was paid via booking, the host asked for the 150 euro deposit that could be paid only via credit card. I never had a credit card, only debit ones from different banks, and none of them couldn’t be processed for this deposit. Our move in date was approaching, and the only reaction from the host was like “it is your problem that you do not have the credit card. If the deposit is not paid, you will not move in”. So, I had to call my friends and ask who can help me with this. Never had such hassle before, especially given that I paid everything via booking.
  
  The next frustration was when we moved in, the apartment was in horrible shape. The cleaning was not done. Beds were in mess, the filth was everywhere, lots of dirty things that remained after the previous guests. Had to call to the booking, so that they could fix the situation with the host. After some debated, the host sent the cleaner, so that we were able to finally move in at 8pm (initially we came at 4pm, so the evening was ruined).
  
  Overall, the apartment is great, but the service is awful.
