Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first walked into the Hamburg Marriott Hotel, I wasn’t expecting to be impressed – I mean, it’s a Marriott, right? But this place actually surprised me. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels distinctly German rather than cookie-cutter corporate, with these gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. You know what really got me though? The staff genuinely seemed to know Hamburg inside and out, not just the touristy stuff.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a five-star property, but it’s the little things that made the difference. The blackout curtains actually work (trust me, this matters when you’re dealing with those bright Nordic summer nights), and the beds are seriously comfortable – like, I-don’t-want-to-get-up comfortable. The bathrooms are spacious with excellent water pressure, which honestly feels like a luxury after staying in some of those charming but tiny European hotels. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything was; you’d never know you’re in the middle of a bustling city. The soundproofing is top-notch, and even the hallways have this hushed quality that just feels… well, expensive.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore Hamburg properly. The Speicherstadt is an easy walk – maybe fifteen minutes if you’re taking your time and stopping for photos of those incredible red-brick warehouses. The HafenCity area is right there too, and I spent hours just wandering around the waterfront. If you’re into nightlife, St. Pauli isn’t far, though honestly, the hotel concierge gave me better recommendations for local spots than any guidebook I’d read. Parking can be a bit pricey (welcome to German city centers), but the hotel garage is secure and the attendants are helpful. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM – I showed up early once and had to wait, which wasn’t a huge deal but worth noting. The breakfast is solid, not groundbreaking, but they do this amazing selection of local breads and the coffee is actually good, not that weak hotel coffee you sometimes get. Sure, it’s not the most characterful place you’ll ever stay – if you want quirky, look elsewhere – but sometimes you just want things to work perfectly, and this place delivers on that promise.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

The front desk staff were nice and the rooms were spacious and clean.

What could be improved: The AC is not very good and in the first room I got before I asked to change, the AC did not work and the room was extremely hot. I called the “at your service” number and the lady who answered told me to open the window and they would send a fam because all rooms are the same. In the end I went to the lobby and they changed my room. In the new room the AC was not great but it was functional.

Super good service. Exec lounge nice and well assorted. Nice pool and sauna. Good 24hr service and clean. Breakfast: Good scrambled eggs and the selection of juices was good. Good coffee (machines) as well.

What could be improved: Charging stations in the basement are very, very poorly explained. Takes ages to set up an account (no data reception in level -2. Should be able to just use a credit card, swipe and charge. Really amazes me, that it was like the old DDR, trying to buy entrecotes. OK "standard breakfast" The selection was not huge. Might be missing a selection of hard cheeses and grilled vegetables e.g red & green peppers, onions etc. as well. But overall OK/good. Nothing "wrong"!
