Hotel Description
Look, when I first heard the name “Holiday Inn – the niu, Bricks Hamburg Eppendorf,” I honestly thought someone was having a laugh with me. It’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it? But here’s the thing – this place actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. It’s tucked into Eppendorf, which if you know Hamburg at all, you’ll recognize as one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists somehow miss. You’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds here, just tree-lined streets and that distinctly Hamburg mix of old brick buildings and modern touches.
The hotel itself feels like someone took the reliable Holiday Inn formula and gave it a proper Hamburg makeover. The “Bricks” part of the name makes sense once you see it – there’s this industrial-meets-cozy vibe throughout, with exposed brick walls that actually look authentic rather than trying too hard. I mean, the 7.8 rating tells you it’s solid without being fancy, and that’s exactly what you get. The rooms are clean and thoughtfully designed, nothing groundbreaking but you won’t find yourself cursing the tiny bathroom or fighting with weird lighting. What I really appreciated was the noise level – Eppendorf isn’t exactly party central, so you’ll actually sleep well here.
You know what struck me most? The staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to the Alster (because honestly, who comes to Hamburg without spending time by the water?), they didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist route. Instead, they suggested this lovely walk through the residential streets that cuts about ten minutes off the journey and shows you how actual Hamburgers live. It’s maybe a 15-minute stroll to the water, and you’ll pass some excellent cafes along the way – the kind where locals read their newspapers over proper coffee. The hotel doesn’t have that flashy concierge setup, but the front desk folks actually know their stuff, which is worth more than a marble lobby in my book. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but they’ve sorted that out reasonably well. Three stars feels about right – it’s comfortable, reliable, and refreshingly unpretentious in a city that can sometimes take itself a bit too seriously.

The room had a decent size and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel is far from the center, but in a very quiet and nice neighborhood. Breakfast was also amazing!
What could be improved: Early check in was not possible, but I did arrive on a Sunday morning, so I can understand that most of the rooms had been booked for the previous night and had to be cleaned 🙂Alonso from United Kingdom – 6 June 2023 (7/10)
