You know what caught me off guard about the Holiday Inn niu Fusion in St. Georg? It’s actually way cooler than the name suggests. I mean, when you hear “Holiday Inn,” you’re probably thinking beige carpets and continental breakfast buffets, but this place has some serious personality. The moment you walk in, there’s this whole modern industrial vibe going on – exposed brick, funky lighting, and honestly, it feels more like a boutique hotel that just happens to be part of a chain.

St. Georg is such an underrated neighborhood, and staying here puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist chaos you get closer to the Speicherstadt. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof, which sounds less romantic than it is – but trust me, having that kind of transit access is gold when you’re exploring Hamburg. The area has this great mix of Turkish restaurants, late-night döner spots, and little cafes that locals actually go to. I spent way too much time at this tiny bakery around the corner that doesn’t even have a proper sign. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for Hamburg standards – and if you’ve been apartment hunting in this city, you know what I mean. Everything’s clean and modern with these fun pops of color that keep it from feeling sterile. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly makes or breaks a stay for me.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night, even though you’re in the middle of everything. The windows do their job, and the neighborhood itself settles down after the dinner rush. Check-in was smooth – no weird surprises or hidden fees, just straightforward and friendly. The staff seemed to actually know the area well, which is refreshing when you need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the touristy spots everyone suggests. Is it perfect? Well, the 7.4 rating is pretty fair – it’s solid, reliable, and has more character than you’d expect, but it’s not going to blow your mind. For a 3-star place in Hamburg though, especially in St. Georg where you get that perfect balance of local flavor and convenience, it’s honestly a really smart choice. You’ll spend less time commuting to wherever you want to go and more time actually enjoying the city.

  Close to railway in an interesting area of the city close enough to walk to many places.

  Clean and fresh design, recently rebranded and remodeled, accommodating and courteous staff, nice breakfast.
  
  What could be improved: While the niu remains conveniently located to transportation and St Georgi nightlife, homelessness and drug activity has increased significantly in the vicinity of the Hauptbahnhof since my last stay, requiring an increased police presence, especially at night.

  Great location for visiting the main attractions of Hamburg. It's about a 25 min walk to the Port, though there is good public transport for those people who don't want to walk the journey.
  
  What could be improved: Having tea and coffee facilities in the room would have been nice. We did speak to the hotel and I understood it wasn't something they offered to guests. I really liked the hotel; however you need to walk out to a different area for a bigger variety of food choices in the evening.

  Very neat and tidy – breakfast was probably the highlight there was so much to offer.
  
  What could be improved: No AC in the room so it did get a little stuffy at night but not dripping in sweat which is fine. Another minus for leaving the window open was how noisy it got on the streets, it did make it hard to sleep. Not for light sleepers unless you have ear bugs.

  The bed was very comfy and the breakfast tasty and there were lots of choices. The bathroom was clean and well set up.
  
  What could be improved: The shower head attachment needs repair. The inability to make tea or coffee in the room and the location was noisy but that was to be expected.
