You know what caught me off guard about the Holiday Inn niu Keg in Hamburg Ost? It’s actually got personality – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first walk in, there’s this whole industrial-chic thing going on that feels way more thoughtful than your typical chain hotel. The lobby has these exposed concrete elements and warm wood accents that somehow work together, and honestly, it reminded me more of a boutique spot than a Holiday Inn property.

The location in Hamburg Ost is pretty solid if you’re looking to stay somewhere that feels more residential but still connected. I mean, you’re not right in the thick of the Speicherstadt tourist madness, but the public transport connections are decent enough that getting into the city center doesn’t become this whole production. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you know how some hotels in busy areas never really settle down? This one actually does. The rooms themselves are compact but smart about it, with these clever storage solutions that make the space feel bigger than it is. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower pressure was actually impressive – you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong.

Here’s the thing though – it’s a 3-star property, so don’t go in expecting marble bathrooms or turndown service. But what they do well, they do really well. The staff seems genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and check-in was refreshingly smooth. I noticed they’ve got this whole local brewery theme woven throughout the design, which makes sense given the “Keg” name, and it adds this authentic Hamburg industrial vibe that feels right for the area. The breakfast spread is solid – nothing fancy, but good quality basics and decent coffee, which honestly covers most of what you need to start the day. If you’re the type who needs to be within walking distance of every major attraction, this might not be your spot, but if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced that doesn’t feel like every other cookie-cutter hotel room you’ve stayed in, it’s definitely worth considering. Plus, parking is actually manageable here, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Hamburg by car will tell you is no small thing.

  Very friendly check in lady, she selected me a quiet room when I arrived late and was tired.
  And the window could be opened which quaranteed that room air was fresh and cool!
  
  What could be improved: This time I didn’t take the breakfast because of my earlier experiences, for vegan and glutenfree there is quite limited options, didn’t want to pay full price of that.
