So I stumbled across Homaris Apartments Hamburg Altona during what I’d call a “let’s just see what’s available” booking situation, and honestly? It turned out way better than I expected for a 3-star place. The thing about Altona – and this is something you only really get once you’ve wandered around Hamburg a bit – is that it’s got this perfect sweet spot vibe. You’re not in the touristy chaos of the city center, but you’re definitely not stuck in some suburban nowhere either.

The apartments themselves have that clean, functional German efficiency thing going on (you know what I mean if you’ve stayed in Germany before), but there’s actually some personality to them. I mean, don’t expect boutique hotel Instagram moments, but the spaces feel lived-in rather than sterile. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night – Altona can get pretty lively, especially on weekends, but somehow this place manages to sit just far enough from the main action that you can actually sleep. The kitchenette situation is legit too, which honestly saved me a fortune since Hamburg restaurants can hit your wallet pretty hard. There’s a Rewe practically around the corner, and if you’re feeling fancy, the Altona market on Saturdays is absolutely worth the early morning trek.

Getting around from here is actually brilliant – the S-Bahn connections mean you can be in St. Pauli in like fifteen minutes, and if you’re heading to the Speicherstadt or HafenCity, it’s a straight shot that doesn’t involve any of those annoying transfers. I stayed here during that weird shoulder season in early spring when Hamburg can’t decide if it wants to be rainy or sunny (spoiler: it chose both, sometimes simultaneously), and having that apartment setup meant I could just roll with whatever the weather threw at me. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything it promises without any nasty surprises. Check-in was smooth, the building felt secure, and honestly, for the price point, you’re getting solid value in a neighborhood that’s got actual character. If you’re the type who’d rather have a real kitchen and some space to spread out instead of cramped hotel rooms and overpriced minibars, this place delivers exactly what you need.

  What could be improved: Location is right next to Police dept., fire station, and ambulance station. Sirens going quite often.

  It was online check-in and it was with additional deposit. Finally I got the code without additional deposit (all stay was paid by booking.com).

  Very good communication from the hosts. Comfy bed. Good sized kitchette and bathroom. Location was great, couple of minutes walk from the S bahn.
  
  What could be improved: There was no kettle, I would have liked one, instead I used the coffee machine just to dispense hot water. Everything in the kitchen was stored up high…Im short and found it tricky!

  Place is at a great location, close to public transportation, bars, clubs, and restaurants. Reasonably clean. Building is across the street from a police station, so the area feels very safe, even at night. And much quieter then we expected!
  
  What could be improved: Instead of a large double bed, a sleep sofa, and two single beds, the apartment has a standard double bed, a sofa bed, one single bed, and one armchair bed. All were comfy tho. During our stay, there were no towels to be found, but we only stayed for one night, so it wasn't a big issue and we didn't bother to reach out to the apartment manager.

  – Abundant facilities (TV, many sofas, coffee machine, lots of kitchen utensils etc.)
  – Travelling to the city center is quite easy as it's close to the S-Bahn line.
  – Value for money for this accommodation was very high.
  It was overall a great stay.
  
  What could be improved: – It was dusty under the sofas.
  – The bathroom is a bit small hence it can have a humid smell. Some fragrance in the bathroom could have been nice.
  – The sound from the next door was audible sometimes.
