Hotel Hagemann Hamburg Hafen Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Hagemann Hamburg Hafen, you immediately sense this is a place that knows its audience. It’s not trying to be something flashy or pretentious — this three-star property in Wilhelmsburg has a straightforward, welcoming vibe that honestly feels refreshing after dealing with some of the more stuffy places in central Hamburg. The lobby has that clean, modern German efficiency you’d expect, but with enough warmth to make you feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually cares about your comfort.
The Wilhelmsburg Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location — you’re technically still in Hamburg, but you get this quieter, more residential feel that’s perfect if you want to escape the tourist crowds. Wilhelmsburg is this interesting island district that most visitors completely overlook, which means you’ll have a more authentic experience. The harbor area gives you those industrial-meets-maritime views that are quintessentially Hamburg, and honestly, it’s way more peaceful than staying right in the Altstadt where you’re dealing with noise until late at night.
Practical Comforts
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d want from a solid three-star — clean, well-maintained, with everything working properly. Nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had good water pressure (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in older European hotels). What really impressed me was the private parking situation — I mean, finding affordable parking in Hamburg can be a nightmare, so having that sorted right at the hotel is actually a huge relief if you’re driving.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast buffet here is one of those pleasant surprises that makes your whole day start better. It’s not just the usual sad continental spread — they actually put effort into offering a proper German breakfast with quality ingredients. Fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety to keep you satisfied whether you’re heading out for business meetings or a full day of sightseeing. The dining area gets nice morning light, and the staff keeps everything well-stocked without hovering around you.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about this place is how it attracts couples looking for something genuine rather than flashy — the feedback about it being perfect for romantic getaways makes total sense when you experience the quieter atmosphere here. You’re close enough to reach Hamburg’s main attractions easily, but you come back to this peaceful spot where you can actually relax and talk without competing with street noise or crowds of tourists. It’s that sweet spot where you get good value, reliable service, and a location that feels like a local secret rather than just another tourist accommodation. The hotel’s commitment to maintaining high standards ensures guests consistently enjoy their stay.

Reviews of Hotel Hagemann Hamburg Hafen
Raghavendran from India – 3 May 2025 (7/10)
Breakfast was really good. It would have been better if they had more salads and other options for vegetarians. Yogurts were really good.
What could be improved: Nothing muchKara from Australia – 3 May 2025 (7/10)
Small room but had everything I needed. Close to bus route. Good breakfast.
What could be improved: The room smelled of smoke with the window closed. Was often noisy outside from vehicles and people having loud conversations or on the phone.Bo from Germany – 13 March 2025 (7/10)
Good value for the price and the food is okay.
What could be improved: The location was too far from public transportation, since I was new to Hamburg I didn't know that.Gábor from Hungary – 5 August 2024 (7/10)
It was an extremely interesting experience to stay here. The accommodation itself wouldn't be bad as the room and bathroom were correct, same goes for the breakfast (with some comments).
The location is not too bad either: there is a bus service that runs frequently (you can also buy a ticket or day ticket online (hvv – ÖPNV Tickets & Fahrinfo), but you can walk into the city centre in about 60-80 minutes.
In the evening the place to have breakfast will be a restaurant, and it is not expensive and serves delicious food.
What could be improved: The difficulty and complexity of parking is shocking. I don't know what experience the staff may have, but they are very strict in listing the rules and not looking through the eyes of the guests.
Parking cannot be booked in advance, only once you are there. But then obviously there is not necessarily a space available. So I parked on the street the first night – irregularly, because although parking is free on the street in front of the accommodation, there is no free space. This is pretty much true of most of the surrounding streets, where you don't have to pay, there are almost always full houses. But after a certain distance, you don't really want to leave your car there…
After my first night parking on the street, the next morning I kept asking when there would be a free space, and when there finally was one, I took it – unfortunately, it doesn't work either, that they tell you when a parking space is available, you have to be at the reception and wait and wait. This is pretty bad and inconvenient.
Check in is pretty quick – if you are the only one there. If there's someone else, you have to wait a long time. You always have to hand in the key and wait through the check-in line, and the same thing when you want to pick up the key.
They could not charge my credit card (this was possible at every other places) and booking.com kept sending me notifications that my reservation might be cancelled. I ended up paying on the spot – as had been agreed beforehand…
Breakfast is fair, but sometimes they wait to refill the meat and cheese: the portion they put out at a time is enough for about three or four people… then you have to wait for a refill. There is a lady at breakfast who asks for the room number without any greeting and smile – we had the feeling she must have served somewhere in North Korea before, because she kept such an eye on everything (except the refill).
However, we got used to the accommodation over time 🙂John from United Kingdom – 7 May 2024 (8/10)
Comfortable and clean good value.
Jamil from Denmark – 6 July 2023 (6/10)
The location and room for family is good.
What could be improved: The parking rule should be explicitly mentioned in booking.com there are some mixed messages.Candler from United States – 3 May 2023 (8/10)
Private parking in a gated underground lot beneath the hotel (17€ for 24 hrs). Modern hotel room and design was cool. Location was perfect because it’s within approximately 1-2 mikes of multiple historical sites.
What could be improved: Check in was not a smooth process and took a while. The hotel was experiencing a building wide issue with the hotel room electronic locking mechanism so guest could not enter with the key card. Multiple guest had to wait a while to check-in because a single staff member had to visit each room one-by-one and unlock the door. Hotel was extremely busy and we waited 10+ minutes to take the elevator from the top floor with heavy luggage. The bar was closed but had a staff member manning it, odd.Alfonso from Germany – 10 April 2023 (8/10)
The staff was exceptionally nice and everything was very clean
What could be improved: The locationJakub from Poland – 11 March 2023 (8/10)
Great breakfast and very polite staff. The room wasn't anything fancy, but definitely met our expectations (very clean and bonus points for the hair drier attached!). Overall a nice stay.
What could be improved: We didn't like the lack of the balcony and one of our friends experienced some problems with the Wi-Fi, which isn't a big deal. However, the additional fee for cultural and turistical reasons (6 euro) did suprise us in a negative way.Maria from Germany – 8 January 2023 (8/10)
staff was super friendly
What could be improved: location wasnt the best, specially at night seemed a bit shady
