House of Grimm Overview

First Impressions

The House of Grimm sits quietly on Bergstedter Chaussee in northern Hamburg, and honestly, the fairy tale name had me curious from the start. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, unpretentious place that feels more like a well-run guesthouse than a corporate hotel. The building itself has that understated German efficiency you come to appreciate, with clean lines and a welcoming entrance that sets the tone for what’s inside.

The Neighborhood Feel

You know what I really liked about this location? It’s properly residential, which means you get a genuine taste of how Hamburg locals actually live. The area around Bergstedter Chaussee is quiet without being dead — there are local cafés and shops within walking distance, but you’re not dealing with tourist crowds or late-night noise. I mean, it’s about a 20-minute ride to the city center, but sometimes that distance is exactly what you want after a day of sightseeing. The parking situation here is actually brilliant — free private spots that you don’t have to stress about, which anyone who’s driven in German cities will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

Room Comfort

The room I stayed in was clean and thoughtfully arranged, with that particular German attention to practical details that I’ve come to appreciate. Nothing fancy, but everything worked properly — the shower had good pressure, the bed was genuinely comfortable, and there was enough space to spread out without feeling cramped. The windows let in plenty of natural light, and you could actually open them for fresh air (something you take for granted until you stay in places where you can’t). Storage space was adequate, and the whole setup felt like someone had actually thought about what travelers need rather than just checking boxes.

Daily Rhythms

Breakfast happens in a cozy dining area that feels more like someone’s well-appointed kitchen than a hotel restaurant. The selection covers the German basics — good bread, local cheeses, proper coffee — without trying to be an international buffet. I found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, partly because the atmosphere was so relaxed and partly because the staff seemed genuinely interested in making sure you had what you needed. The whole pace of the place is refreshingly unhurried, which sets a nice tone for exploring Hamburg at your own speed.

Why Guests Love It

What really works about House of Grimm is how it gets the fundamentals right without any unnecessary fuss. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the peaceful setting and the fact that you can actually have a conversation without competing with lobby noise or constant foot traffic. The free parking removes one major city stress, and the residential location gives you that authentic Hamburg experience while still being accessible to everything you want to see. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day properly, and don’t spend time worrying about hotel logistics — which, honestly, is exactly what you want from a good three-star property.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

Reviews of House of Grimm

  • Edeltraud from Germany – 27 December 2024 (9/10)

  • Sabrina from Germany – 14 August 2024 (8/10)

  • Paul from Netherlands – 15 July 2024 (9/10)

Communicatie ging heel soepel. Inchecken erg makkelijk en huis zeer comfortabel. Ook met 6 volwassenen goed te doen

    What could be improved: Niets

  • Achim from Germany – 10 July 2024 (9/10)

Alles super. Gerne wieder. Super nette Vermieter.Sehr schön gelegen, zum spazieren gehen mit Hund perfekt. Gute Lokale fußläufig zu erreichen.

  • Ursula from Germany – 8 December 2023 (9/10)

Sehr, sehr gemütliches Haus, etwas außerhalb der City gelegen, aber mit guter Anbindung an den ÖPV , in einem sehr grünen Stadtteil von Hamburg. Im Haus war alles vorhanden.

  • Donato from Germany – 22 October 2023 (8/10)

clean, big, baby and pet friendly!

  • Eugen from Romania – 7 August 2023 (5/10)

    Location was nice.
Easy to get the key from main door.

What could be improved: Bathroom has a lack of ventilation, dampness present there.
Shower cabin half glass is missing.
Kitchen should have a microwave in my opinion for a quick use if required.
In description it is not mentioned that there is a room in the attic, accessed by a narrow and steep ladder.
Anyway, we don't think this is suitable accommodation for a family with small children.

  • Ian from Netherlands – 31 May 2023 (9/10)

Uncomplicated check in and hosts. Very practical accommodation. It has all you need to sleep comfortably, shower and eat before or after heading out. Convenient public transport to get to and from the city. Lovely quiet location.

What could be improved: Everything was as expected. Not super luxury or close to city centre but that's already clear before you book. Perfectly good accommodation for the price. Those demanding more should not really choose this place. The stairs to the top room are very narrow and steep so someone with mobility issues would not get up there, but otherwise it's fine.

  • David from Ireland – 1 December 2022 (9/10)

Very good facilities and very clean . The price was right and there was parking.

What could be improved: On a busy road and the stairs won't suit everyone

  • Angelika from Germany – 21 July 2022 (8/10)

The house/apartment was very nice. It had a TV, kitchen, bathroom, towels. The location was ok., close to a train station to get into town. The host was very friendly!

What could be improved: The sleep sofa downstairs was not really big enough for 2 teenagers, but for 1 night they survived. There was no toilet paper, so we had to buy some.
