Le Méridien Hamburg Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Le Méridien Hamburg, I wasn’t expecting to be blown away. I mean, it’s a five-star place so you kind of know what you’re getting into, right? But there’s something about this hotel that actually surprised me. The lobby has this understated elegance thing going on – not flashy or trying too hard like some of these international chains can be. It feels distinctly Hamburg, if that makes sense. You know what I noticed right away? The staff genuinely seemed to know the city. When I asked about getting to the Speicherstadt without dealing with tourist crowds, the concierge didn’t just hand me a generic map – he sketched out this route that locals use and mentioned the best time to catch the light hitting those red brick warehouses.
The rooms are well, pretty much what you’d expect from Le Méridien – clean lines, good lighting, beds that don’t make you miss home too much. But here’s the thing that stuck with me: the soundproofing is actually solid. Hamburg can get surprisingly lively at night (especially if you’re anywhere near the Reeperbahn area), but I slept through everything. The bathroom situation is good too – proper water pressure and none of that weird European shower setup where you flood the entire floor. Oh, and the WiFi doesn’t crap out every twenty minutes, which honestly feels like a miracle these days. I did notice the elevators can be a bit slow during busy periods, but that’s pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.
What really sold me on this place though was the breakfast situation – and I’m usually someone who just grabs coffee and runs. They’ve got this spread that includes proper German bread (not the sad hotel stuff), local cheeses, and honestly some of the best coffee I had during my entire Hamburg trip. The dining area gets busy around 8:30, so if you’re not a morning person, either get there early or wait until after 9:30. The location works really well too – you’re close enough to walk to the harbor and all the main sights, but far enough from the real tourist chaos that you can actually breathe. Plus, there’s decent public transport connections right nearby, which matters when you’re trying to explore beyond the city center. I ended up extending my stay an extra night, partly because I was enjoying Hamburg more than expected, but partly because this place just felt right. Not perfect – I mean, it’s still a chain hotel – but the kind of place where you can settle in and actually feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just passing through it.

The location is very good with great walks around the Alster and good views, although a short distance from the center of town.
The room was large and comfortable and very clean, if a little tired.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made my stay more enjoyable.
The buffet breakfast is good with plenty to choose from but €43!
What could be improved: The bar on the seventh floor was closed for special functions both nights.
I can't get over €43 for bacon and egg for breakfast.Frank from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (8/10)

location of the breakfast is amazing – the massive glass windows on the 9th floor allow for a breathtaking view of the Alster – it couldn't be a more beautiful view of the Hamburg.
What could be improved: swimming pool was closed for renovations, lefts were terrible – not 'smart lifts' very slow and stopping everywhere so not well programmedSonja from Germany – 3 March 2025 (9/10)
Friendly staff, very good buffet, helpful staff, nice big bathroom and great big shower, good that shower not in bath and that shower easy for older people to get in, nice view from restaurant, like the idea of door bell that is super
What could be improved: Room could be bigger, bed for teenager a bit low and duvet cover too short.
Light not so good, had to put on to many to have enough light to read, usb plugs missing, door by shower would be good because toilet got wet. Plugs
