You know what struck me immediately though — it’s not trying to be some fancy hotel lobby experience, it’s more like stepping into someone’s incredibly well-designed apartment that just happens to have million-dollar views.

Location & Neighborhood

The Altona-Altstadt area is honestly one of Hamburg’s best-kept secrets for travelers who want to feel like locals. You’re right on Große Elbstraße, which means the Elbe River is literally at your doorstep — I mean, you can hear the water and watch the ships from your window. What I love about this spot is that you’re close enough to walk to the famous Fischmarkt (especially great on Sunday mornings), but far enough from the tourist crowds that you actually get some peace. The neighborhood has this authentic Hamburg vibe with local cafes and proper German bakeries just around the corner.

The Space

This isn’t your typical hotel room setup — it’s a proper loft space that feels more like borrowing a friend’s amazing place for the weekend. The panoramic windows are floor-to-ceiling, and honestly, I spent way too much time just watching the harbor activity below. The kitchen area is actually functional (not just for show), which is perfect if you want to grab some fresh ingredients from the local markets. The design is modern but not cold — sort of that Scandinavian-meets-industrial thing that works so well in converted Hamburg spaces.

  The view was amazing! Couldn’t ask for a more convenient place —to the harbor, the ferry, ferry access to the metro. The apartment very spacious! Restaurants nearby. Sunday fish market right outside the building!
  
  What could be improved: Prepare yourself for a bit of a workout. It is 5 flights up with no lift. Fortunately our group was in good enough shape, but would be problematic for anyone with physical challenges.

  Die Lage des Apartments war klasse, der Blick aus dem Fenster war genial. Super Anbindung an Bus, Fähre, S und U Bahn. Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Die Betten waren bequem. In der Küche hat man alles vorgefunden was für einen Aufenthalt benötigt wird.

  Das war dann doch mal eine Wohnung nach unserem Geschmack. Für einen Hamburg Trip ideal. Wohnung super mit super Ausstattung, direkt an der Fischhalle, Haltestelle Fähre vor der Tür, Bäcker vor der Tür, Parkmöglichkeiten auf verschiedenen Preislevel, unweit Landungsbrücken, diverse Restaurants fussläufig erreichbar. Herz was willst Du mehr.
  
  What could be improved: Das gerade bei unserem Besuch an der Telefonleitung Baumassnahmen durchgeführt wurden und das Streamen gerade beim Fussball manchmal stockte. Aber dafür kann ja der Vermieter nichts.

  The view and the location
  The property let us amend our accomodation dates due to the train strike which was appreciated.
  
  What could be improved: No hot water in the kitchen or in the second bathroom
  Apartment was advertised with bath this is one of the reasons we booked this particular apartment. No working plug was provided so we were unable to use the bath. We telephoned and requested that the above issues be fixed. But request wasn’t actioned on. Only 1 dishwasher Tablet provided for 4 people coupled with watered down dishwashing liquid. Otherwise very nice.

  What could be improved: There was no mention in the add that there was no lift I had to carry 4 suitcases up and down 5 floors off stairs which was very exhausting and it doesn’t help if you got bad joints the other thing the add didn’t tell you that if your staying over the weekend there is a drinking hall right across from it that has music playing till late and at 5.30 onwards on a Sunday morning you got the screaming from the market that is on every Sunday morning till 11am
