You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Mediterran? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not – and honestly, that’s refreshing. When I first walked into the lobby, I wasn’t blown away by marble floors or crystal chandeliers, but there was something genuinely welcoming about the whole setup. The staff actually remembered my name by day two (which, let’s be real, doesn’t happen at most places), and the whole vibe felt more like staying at a well-run guesthouse than a typical chain hotel.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds that don’t leave you waking up with a sore back, and decent-sized bathrooms with reliable hot water. I mean, the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything works properly, which is honestly more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed. The air conditioning was quiet enough that I could actually sleep with it running, and there’s something to be said for blackout curtains that actually block out light. What I really appreciated were the little touches – like having enough outlets near the bed to charge your devices without unplugging the lamp, and towels that were clearly replaced regularly, not just refolded and hung back up.

The breakfast situation was surprisingly good for this category of hotel. Not one of those sad continental spreads with stale pastries, but actual variety with some local touches mixed in. I found myself looking forward to it each morning, which doesn’t happen often. The dining area gets pretty busy around 8:30, so if you’re not a morning person, either get there early or wait until after 9:30 when the business travelers clear out. Location-wise, you’re not right in the thick of everything, but that also means you can actually get some sleep at night – the area stays pretty quiet after 10 PM. It’s a quick walk to the main spots you’ll want to see, and there’s decent public transport nearby if you need it. Parking was easier than I expected, though I’d still recommend asking about it when you book if you’re driving. The 7.3 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  What could be improved: If you are here because you came to Hamburg, the hotel is far from the City. The location is not bad if you have a car. If you come by an electric car, there is nowhere to charge it in or near the hotel.

  What could be improved: When I came, they redirected me to another hotel because this is full, allthough ordered via online booking. Have to drive 10 km to another hotel. They should have gave some discount for this but did not offer any. Towels were not completely dry.
