Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name NH Hamburg Horner Rennbahn, I had to look up what “Horner Rennbahn” even meant (it’s the old horse racing track, by the way). But this 4-star spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. You know what struck me first? The lobby doesn’t try too hard to impress you with fancy marble or whatever – it’s clean, modern, and feels like a place where business travelers and tourists can both feel comfortable without anyone feeling out of place.

The location is honestly pretty clever if you think about it. Yeah, you’re not right in the heart of St. Pauli or the Speicherstadt, but that means you’re getting way more value for your money, and Hamburg’s public transport is solid enough that you’ll be at the Hauptbahnhof in maybe 15 minutes. I mean, the U-Bahn connections are really straightforward from here. What I actually loved was how quiet it gets at night – you’re far enough from the party districts that you can actually sleep, but close enough that a quick taxi ride doesn’t cost you a fortune. The rooms themselves have that NH chain consistency going for them, which sounds boring but is actually reassuring when you’re tired and just want everything to work properly. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-brochure comfortable), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping your elbows every time you brush your teeth.

Here’s something I didn’t expect – the staff really knows the area well. When I asked about getting to the fish market early Sunday morning, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a tourist map. He actually explained the best route and mentioned that the S-Bahn starts running earlier on weekends than I thought. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference, you know? The breakfast is solid too – not groundbreaking, but they get the basics right and there’s usually enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying several days. Parking was surprisingly easy, which anyone who’s driven in Hamburg will tell you is worth mentioning. The 7.8 rating feels about right to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was traveling for work or wanted a good base for exploring Hamburg without paying city center prices. Sometimes the best hotels are the ones that just get out of your way and let you enjoy the city, and this place does exactly that.

  Close to to city centre.
  
  What could be improved: I was asked to pay for dinners I never had.
  We were treated like liars and felt accused by the staff because we questioned the extra charges for dinners we never had.
  We were made to wait while they were looking for their mistake. While waiting, they still kept showing us the list of what someone else had consumed but this was charged to our room.
  After what felt like an half an hour of waiting, back and forth conversations, they called the restaurant which someone from there had to come down to the reception and confirmed, it was someone else that had dined and not us!
  They apologised in the end.
  We accept that mistakes do happen and that's no problem. However, being made to feel like we were lying, in front of other guests in the lobby area, it is not acceptable.

  We had a good room, the same as it is showed in the website.
  The location is a little far from the city center, but there is a bus station in front of the hotel, which take you to the train station and with one train you can get to the city center.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was good. Maybe the only thing that I can name here is the location. But it is something that you know in advance so it is not a minus point.
