You know what caught me off guard about PHNX Aparthotel Hamburg? The name honestly made me think it’d be one of those trying-too-hard trendy places, but it’s actually refreshingly straightforward – which, let’s be real, is pretty Hamburg in itself. The whole aparthotel concept works really well here, especially if you’re staying more than just a night or two. I mean, having a proper kitchenette changes everything when you want to grab some fresh bread from a local bakery instead of paying hotel breakfast prices every morning.

The rooms have this clean, Nordic-ish vibe that doesn’t feel sterile – there’s enough character to make it feel homey without being cluttered. What I really appreciated was the space; you’re not bumping into furniture every time you open your suitcase, which happens way too often in European hotels. The beds are actually comfortable (not just “hotel comfortable”), and the soundproofing is decent enough that you won’t hear every conversation in the hallway. Though honestly, Hamburg isn’t London or Paris when it comes to street noise anyway, so that helps. The kitchenette setup is practical rather than fancy – you’ve got what you need to make coffee that doesn’t taste like cardboard and maybe heat up some of those amazing German pretzels.

Here’s the thing about staying in Hamburg though – and this applies to PHNX too – the city grows on you in ways you don’t expect. It’s not trying to impress tourists like Munich or Berlin, it just does its own thing really well. The staff here gets that vibe; they’re helpful without being overly chatty, which I found refreshing after dealing with some overly enthusiastic hotel people elsewhere. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or surprise tourist taxes that make you do math at 2 PM when you just want to drop your bags. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. It’s the kind of place where everything works the way it should, the shower has good pressure, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out during video calls, and you can actually get a good night’s sleep. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, especially in a city where you’ll probably be out exploring the Speicherstadt or hanging around the harbor most of the time anyway.

  Paid a little extra for a room with a view and was glad to have done so. The "studio" is really small but has everything you need. The building itself is an aesthetic pleasure, and the paternoster lift a delightful extra.
  
  What could be improved: The absence of any ground floor reception staff is a bit weird but the team at the 4th floor reception were lovely. The weekend we stayed, the SBahn wasn't running, which was a right pain, but that is hardly the hotel's fault.

  The room was amazing. Even had a small kitchen. The breakfast room was grand, and breakfast was good. Was better than I expected.
  
  What could be improved: I only stayed one night to catch a train in the morning from Harburg. No real issues. All good

  Excellent breakfast, a very good vibe suitable for those 20s and up. Very close to the station but sound was no problem with the windows closed.
  
  What could be improved: Arriving after 10, getting the key was a little tricky because the system was automated and a little unclear. I also don’t like needing an app to use the laundry. Halls smell of various kinds of smoke in spite of no-smoking signs on the doors (the room itself was fine).

  The appartment is located right next to the Harburg train station in a Hamburg suburb. If you are travelling by train and are just looking for a relatively cheap one-night accomodation, this appartment is great. We found it quite spacious, clean, and with very comfy beds.
  
  What could be improved: We arrived late (at 23:15 pm), and that left us with only a self check-in option where the instructions for encoding the key to our hotel-room were somewhat imprecise, especially so for someone who is very tired. We had to call for assistance, and the phone connection was poor, so we used over half an hour finding out how the encoding worked.

  The hotel itself is great, room was clean and totally like on the photos. It was quite despite the building located right in front of the railway station. It is possible to check in at any time. Room has doily equipped kitchen. Also beautiful lounge with coffee and drinks.
  
  What could be improved: Location is not in the best neighborhood, I wouldn’t go for a walk around, but the metro goes directly to the city center.
  No iron, shower curtain didn’t save from us flooding the bathroom.
