You know what surprised me about the Premier Inn Hamburg City Alster? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be fancy but somehow gets the important stuff absolutely right. I mean, it’s a 3-star property, so you’re not expecting marble lobbies or champagne service, but honestly – sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

The location is pretty solid if you’re trying to stay close to the Alster without paying those insane prices right on the water. You’re still walking distance to all the good stuff around the Alster lakes, and I actually prefer being slightly removed from the main tourist chaos. The rooms have that clean, no-nonsense Premier Inn vibe – you know, those super comfortable beds they’re always going on about (which, okay, are actually really good), decent shower pressure, and everything works like it should. Nothing revolutionary, but after a long day wandering around Hamburg’s canals and warehouse district, that’s honestly all I needed. The staff seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, which you don’t always get with chain hotels.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Hamburg can get pretty lively, especially on weekends, but this spot doesn’t seem to catch much street noise. The breakfast is typical Premier Inn fare, which means it’s filling and gets the job done without being memorable. I did notice they keep it stocked well even during busy periods, which matters when you’re trying to fuel up before hitting places like the Speicherstadt or taking that harbor tour everyone talks about. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who wants to spend your money on experiencing Hamburg rather than on thread counts and room service, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and value. Plus, you’re well-positioned to explore both the historic warehouse district and the trendy Sternschanze area without feeling like you need to take a taxi everywhere.

  Big clean room, and the location is great for getting to town, and the airport.

  Enjoyed the happy hour drinks, and the very helpful & friendly staff. Did not partake of breakfast….. at nearly €18 per person, it was far too dear for our small tastes.

  Staff were lovely and friendly, room and beds were comfortable and clean, very close to U and S Bahn stations.
  
  What could be improved: Only one towel in the bathroom. 2nd day we found spare towels in the wardrobe. Also shower didn't have hot water at some times during the day.

  Clean, comfortable room for the family, kids friendly place, breakfast really good, nice location very near to metro stations and a supermarket.
  
  What could be improved: The sofa-bed was not very comfortable, its mattress was too hard. We also missed a frigobar in the room.
