You know what caught me off guard about the Raphael Hotel Wälderhaus? The name had me expecting some generic business hotel, but this place actually has character – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s technically a 3-star property, but honestly, it punches way above its weight class. The 8.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a night here.

The whole “Wälderhaus” thing isn’t just marketing fluff either. There’s this genuine woody, forest-cabin vibe throughout the place that somehow works without feeling forced or theme-park-ish. The lobby has these thick wooden beams and natural textures that immediately make you want to slow down a bit. I actually found myself lingering there with coffee way longer than I planned – there’s something about the lighting and the way they’ve arranged the seating that just draws you in. The rooms carry through with this aesthetic too, though they’re not huge (this is Europe, after all). But the beds are surprisingly comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern enough that you’re not dealing with any of those tiny European shower situations that make you question your life choices.

What really sold me on this place was the staff – they seem to actually care about what they’re doing, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is. Check-in was smooth, they remembered my name the next morning, and when I asked about local restaurants, the guy behind the desk didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He actually walked me through a few options based on what I was in the mood for. That kind of personal touch is what bumps a decent hotel into the “I’d definitely stay here again” category. The location works well too – it’s not right in the absolute center of everything, which means it’s quieter at night but still close enough that you’re not spending half your day commuting to wherever you want to be. Parking was straightforward, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate a European city center with a rental car, you’ll appreciate more than you should have to. The breakfast was solid – nothing fancy, but fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety that you’re not eating the same sad croissant every morning. I mean, for a 3-star place, they’re really doing things right here.

  Very good location and friendly staff. The room was excellent, and the shower was very hot and powerful, which is a nice change from most places we've stayed.

  Excellent place to stay. Great breakfast. Rooms are much nicer than they look in the photos. Comfortable, spacious. Lovely location (nice walks from the hotel).

  The location was convenient for groceries and the metro.
  
  What could be improved: Google maps did not know where the hotel was. We ended up walking through a swamp to get there. Breakfast was expensive at the hotel, so we walked to a very convenient, nearby, shopping centre and bought breakfast there each morning.
