Honestly, Sporthotel Racket Inn caught me off guard in the best way possible. You pull up to this three-star property in Schnelsen and think you’re getting something pretty standard, but there’s actually a lot more personality here than you’d expect. The building has this sporty, modern vibe that feels refreshing — not trying too hard to be fancy, just comfortable and welcoming. What makes it stand out is the attention to detail in how the space is designed and maintained.

Location & Getting Around

I’ll be straight with you — Schnelsen isn’t exactly central Hamburg, but that’s actually part of the charm. You’re in this quieter residential area that feels authentically German, away from the tourist crowds. What surprised me is how much couples seem to love it here (they rate the location really highly), and I get why. There’s something nice about having a peaceful base while still being connected to the city. Plus, the free parking is a genuine blessing if you’re driving — try finding that in Hamburg’s city center without paying through the nose. The neighborhood offers genuine local character.

The Room Experience

You know what really impressed me? The beds. I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of places where you wake up feeling like you wrestled with the mattress all night, but not here. They’ve clearly invested in proper bedding, and honestly, after a long day exploring Hamburg, sinking into one of these beds feels like a small victory. The room itself is clean and functional — nothing flashy, but everything works exactly as it should. The furnishings are practical and well-maintained throughout.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet here is actually pretty solid for a three-star place. They’ve got vegetarian options covered, which isn’t always a given, and the spread feels substantial without being overwhelming. I appreciated that they seem to understand what travelers actually want in the morning — good coffee, fresh bread, and enough variety to fuel whatever adventure you’ve got planned. The restaurant area has this relaxed atmosphere where you can take your time without feeling rushed. The quality of ingredients is noticeably fresh.

Here’s something interesting — this place has way more repeat guests than most hotels, and after staying here, I totally understand why. It’s not about flashy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies.   The rooms are spacious and have a bath. The location is very quiet. Somewhat old, but clean and functioning. I have not used any facilities other than in the room, but they looked quite ok. (like fitness, tennis court etc)
  
  What could be improved: I had the impression they were unaware of my stay when I checked in. Also on checkout it seems that administration isn't their strongest suit.
  Its hard to communicate if they don't speak English. Common in Germany, but considering they are next to an international airport you might have expected more. I therefor had no info on anything considering the facilities.
  Also a bit creepy if someone shouts AUSWEIS to you right after memorial day.

  Stunning views from room. Sheep & lambs grazing in the fields. Quiet location. Beautiful grounds. Good sports facilities. Benny’s Restaurant served super food. Lovely, friendly staff in restaurant.

  We liked everything of this place. It's just nice and cosy with a lot of facilities. In fact, we immediatly booked a weekend for our entire family in september. This place has all, we need for activities as well as just relaxing.

  The room was comfortable with good space. Breakfast was good enough for the price. The stuff was helpful and friendly. All in all it was a good stay and a good place.
