You know what caught me off guard about STAY Boardinghouse Flottbek? The name makes it sound like some generic corporate place, but honestly, it’s got way more personality than that. I mean, we’re talking about a 3-star spot that punches well above its weight – that 8.5 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen, it’s actually earned.

The whole boardinghouse concept works really well here, especially if you’re staying more than just a night or two. It’s got this lived-in feeling that regular hotels never quite manage, like someone actually thought about what it’s like to exist in a space rather than just sleep in it. The rooms have proper kitchenettes (not those sad mini-fridges with a hot plate), which honestly saved me a fortune since eating out in Hamburg every meal adds up fast. I actually found myself looking forward to that morning coffee ritual in my room instead of hunting down an overpriced hotel breakfast. The furniture’s modern but not trying too hard – you know that Ikea-plus aesthetic that actually makes sense.

Location-wise, Flottbek is one of those Hamburg neighborhoods that locals love but tourists usually miss, which works in your favor. You’re far enough from the Reeperbahn chaos to actually sleep at night, but the S-Bahn connection means you’re never really stuck out there. I spent a lot of time just wandering the residential streets nearby – it’s surprisingly green and quiet, with these beautiful old villas mixed in with newer developments. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No upselling, no lengthy explanations of amenities I’ll never use. What really sold me was the little touches – decent Wi-Fi that actually works throughout the building, proper blackout curtains (thank god), and bathrooms that feel spacious enough for a human being to move around in. Sure, it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done. If you’re the type who’d rather spend money on experiencing Hamburg than on thread counts and marble lobbies, this place gets it right.

  Good location, quiet, 10-15 minutes drive to city centre. Very cozy apartment with full kitchen to cook and cool living dining area.
  Bedroom with walk-in closet.
  Great cafe next door and a fantastic premium grocery/ mini market shop
  yards away.
  Top quality, great value for money.
  Strongly recomended and we will probably be back again.

  Nice little apartment block, with a very nice shower, small kitchen, TV, fridge etc. Our one was on top/2nd floor (no lift). Best part was the very attentive, helpful and responsive staff (esp. Johanna and Sascha), whenever we asked for something they arranged that happily with a smile (rare in Germany)! Right below the apartment is Cafe Elb Wein, offering very good coffee and food. Grocery stores, restaurants and public transport are within walking distance. We stayed for 2 weeks almost, and the shared washing machine dryer was also very helpful. The beds were comfortable, including the sofa-bed.
  
  What could be improved: It's dark inside because of the multiple shades of grey! You need to burn the lights even when it is daytime – I think for an apartment on the top floor it's a bit counter-productive. Getting a parking spot around at times can be challenging.

  My friends and I had a very pleasant stay. The apartment was located in a very nice, quiet and safe neighbourhood. There is a public transport within 10min. walking distance. The apartment was very clean and well maintained. It had everything we needed.

  Amazing apartments, everything you can think of you need is here – towels, toiletry, kitchen accessories. Blackout curtains let me have the best sleep in my life. Overall apartments are very cozy, smart tv is on an adjustable stand so you can place it wherever comfortable for you. Commuting to city centre is max 30 minutes and is even possible without transfers, just by bus 16, but the S-Bahn is nearby too and commuting to airport is approx. 1 hour by S- and U-Bahn. A great grocery shop is 2 minutes walk from the apartments. Stayed for 5 nights with a friend, highly recommend, 1000000/10!
  
  What could be improved: Everything was great. I brought my own lint roller and a trousers hanger because I knew I would need them, if such little things were present in the apartment I would literally lose my mind in the best way. But still amazing experience, from nice two water bottles as a welcome to really pleasant people working here

  On the whole I loved it, thought it was charming and pleasant. The kitchen and bathroom were well-equipped. The neighbourhood was a joy and the train to the city easy to get to.
  
  What could be improved: The beds were rather hard and the loft arrangement was not ideal: I couldn't stand up in the loft and the stairs were uncomfortably steep. The directions (in English) by the (German) receptionist to the actual hotel were so unclear that I had to be helped by a local inhabitant.

  location is good. cafe elbwein is on the ground floor, you can grab some food and take it to the room.
  
  What could be improved: The coffe machine was dirty, filter had a mold on it. The floor carpet was dusty and when walking the dust was all in the air.

  Die Lage war sehr zentral für uns. Das erreichen der S-Bahn ideal.
  
  What could be improved: Das Design der Wohnung war zwar sehr modern und schick. Jedoch sehr in grau gehalten. Somit mussten wir auch bei Tag das Licht einschalten. Das war sehr schade.
