You know what caught me off guard about the Steigenberger Hotel Treudelberg Hamburg? It’s actually tucked away in this surprisingly green part of the city that feels almost suburban – nothing like what you’d expect when you think “Hamburg hotel.” I mean, most people picture the bustling harbor area or the nightlife district, but this place sits in what locals call the Treudelberg area, and honestly, it’s kind of refreshing.

The building itself has this classic German hotel vibe going on – not flashy, but solid in that reassuring European way. When I walked into the lobby, it struck me as the kind of place where business travelers probably feel right at home, but families wouldn’t feel out of place either. The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing (you’d be surprised how rare that is sometimes), and check-in was smooth without being overly formal. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you’re far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually get some sleep, but close enough that getting into the city center doesn’t require a major expedition.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star German hotel – clean, functional, with that slightly understated elegance that Europeans do so well. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly, which is honestly more valuable than fancy amenities that break down. The beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that satisfying German engineering feel where the shower pressure is actually decent. I noticed they keep the common areas pretty well-maintained too – you can tell management cares about the details, even if they’re not shouting about luxury every five minutes.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re getting that reliable German hospitality without paying those insane city center prices. The area has some decent local restaurants within walking distance, and if you’re driving, parking isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of Hamburg. Sure, you might need to hop on public transport or take a short taxi ride to hit the major sights, but sometimes it’s worth it to come back to somewhere that feels less like a tourist factory. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on what it promises, and in my experience, that’s actually pretty valuable.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

  This hotel exceeded our expectations, truly! It’s located in a cul-de-sac area in Hamburg. The hotel is equipped with all necessities for leisure that includes the whole family. The family rooms are big with a wardrobe room. Kids can enjoy a great splash 💦 in the swimming pool and parents can relax at the spa for some peace of mind. We had breakfast included, fresh produce with a vast variety of different charcuterie dishes and fruits. The hotel provides lunch and dinner a la carte and the food is absolutely delicious with a diverse menu. The staff across the hotel are kind and attentive to guests. We highly recommend the cocktails at the bar. Nadine is in charge of the bar and we couldn’t be on better hands. She’s outrageously knowledgeable and inventive. We had the best cocktails, absolutely outstanding. Thank you Nadine for sharing with us a bit of your cocktail a liquor recipes, for the amazing conversations and making our stay memorable and pleasant.

  Nice, clean and big room. Very comfy beds, all the facilities super well maintained. Location is 30-40 minutes from city center by car, but that was exactly what we wanted – to stay in a quiet area. Breakfast was really good with plenty of options. There was also a play room for the toddlers that I did not know before booking the hotel. Swimming pool is also super nice and relaxing!

  I loved the whole Hotel, which is part of a golf club ressort, including the pool, which I recall was one of the main reasons I booked this Hotel on short notice being on a little road trip during late winter time in north of Germany, so still during off season. The room actually had some interesting design elements, which I might get or even build myself next time I (re)decorate my house. And the breakfast buffet was amazing, these kind of buffets one rarely finds these days anymore, even in (considered) higher class Hotels. Very nice. The staff overall was business like friendly. But a special thanks to the host, and kitchen staff there too, at the Bistro 19, who still let me order some food although I showed up 5 minutes ish prior closure time without me knowing they close at 6 pm. And also to one of the barkeepers at Treudelbar, who made me feel very welcome, by having more than just a businesslike friendliness and word with me, and even recognised me and which drink I had, when I showed up the second day of my stay.

  Comfortable room and lovely surroundings. Bar area is nice to relax and socialise.
  
  What could be improved: No courtesy coffee on arrival in room had to ask. Water in sink did not empty and reading light by reading chair didn't function. At checkout I mentioned these matters, good customer service would immediately offer a complimentary drink or voucher. Though minor, all should have been checked prior to check-in.
  
  The walls are thin and if guests speak in the corridor, it sounds as if they are in the same room.
  
  For 199€ per night would expect more.
