You know what struck me first about von Deska Townhouses – Ivy House? It’s actually in a proper townhouse, not some converted office building pretending to be boutique. I mean, you walk up and there’s literal ivy crawling up the brick facade (hence the name, obviously), and it feels like you’re staying at someone’s really well-appointed home rather than a hotel. The whole setup is more intimate than your typical 3-star place – honestly, it punches above its weight in that regard.

The rooms have this lived-in charm that’s hard to fake. We’re talking original hardwood floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a real building with history, but not so much that it keeps you awake. The ceilings are higher than you’d expect, which makes even the smaller rooms feel airy. I loved the little details – like how they’ve kept some of the original molding and paired it with modern fixtures that actually work well together. The bathrooms are compact but thoughtfully designed, and the water pressure was surprisingly good (you never know with these older buildings). One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The charm of staying in a townhouse means you’ll hear your neighbors a bit more than in a standard hotel.

What really sets this place apart is how the staff treats you – they genuinely seem to know the neighborhood and will point you toward spots that aren’t just tourist traps. The front desk person told us about this little café around the corner that we never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being our go-to breakfast spot. Check-in was smooth, no corporate nonsense, just friendly people who seemed to actually care whether we had a good stay. The common areas feel like someone’s actual living room – well, if someone had really good taste and deep pockets. There’s this cozy sitting area where people actually hang out in the evenings, which is rare these days. The 8.0 rating makes perfect sense to me because while it’s not luxury by any stretch, everything works, it’s clean, comfortable, and has personality. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentically local rather than cookie-cutter corporate, and you don’t need a gym or room service, this is exactly what you want. Just don’t expect to find it easily – the signage is pretty subtle, which somehow adds to the whole residential vibe.

  Very good room, well equipped kitchen.
  Accommodation is close to public transport, in very safe area. Very quiet area too.
  We arrived little early, and room was already ready for us, really great.

  Wonderful location in a beautiful building. The staff is incredibly helpful and accommodating! The bed is very comfortable and the garden is a feast for the eye. It’s very serene, peaceful and quiet. It’s great to have access to a kitchenette and laundry facilities.
  
  What could be improved: Internet is incredibly slow and the connection drops frequently. Although it didn’t matter this trip, there is no AC. The rooms are rather small. Next time we’ll book, we will aim for the one bedroom apartment.

  Gorgeous neighborhood, wonderful view of the garden, nice and clean. Bathroom is certainly small, but still quite nice.

  I had a small room, but it was nicely equipped – there was a kitchen and a desk suited for work. Room was clean.
