So you’re looking at Aspria Hamburg Uhlenhorst, and honestly, this place caught me off guard in the best way. I mean, when you first walk in, it doesn’t scream “hotel” at all – it feels more like you’ve stumbled into some exclusive members club that happens to let people sleep over. The whole vibe is very much Hamburg’s sporty, health-conscious crowd mixed with that understated German luxury thing they do so well.

The Uhlenhorst neighborhood is actually perfect for this kind of setup. You’re right on the edge of the Alster – you know, that beautiful lake that makes Hamburg feel less like a port city and more like somewhere you’d go to decompress. I walked around the area quite a bit, and there’s this lovely residential feel with tree-lined streets that feel worlds away from the tourist crowds near the Speicherstadt. The morning jog route along the water is honestly spectacular, which makes sense given this place markets itself as much for fitness as accommodation. You’ll see plenty of locals out there too, especially early morning – it’s where the Hamburg wellness crowd actually hangs out, not just visits.

What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve integrated the spa and sports facilities. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels with fitness centers that feel like afterthoughts, but here it’s clearly the main event. The pool area has this zen-like quality – lots of natural light, clean lines, that distinctly northern European approach to wellness where everything feels purposeful rather than flashy. The spa treatments are solid too, though I’d book ahead because locals use these facilities as much as hotel guests do. Check-in was smooth, staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff about both the hotel amenities and the neighborhood (always a good sign). The rooms themselves are comfortable without being flashy – think clean, modern, with those amazing German blackout curtains that actually work. You’ll sleep well here, especially after using their facilities. Parking was surprisingly easy for Hamburg, which anyone who’s driven in this city will appreciate. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s very good at what it does, though it’s definitely more about the experience than jaw-dropping luxury. If you’re the type who travels to actually use hotel amenities rather than just crash between sightseeing, this is your spot.

  The spa facilities are absolutely fantastic value for what we paid for this trip. I used the spa every day but one of our stay and it was never overly full. As per other reviews this spa is textile free which is not something that british people are used to but this place has now ruined UK spas for me! I need to find textile free spas in UK as the experience is so much better.
  
  The staff were nice and helpful and the room was great. Comfy bed, quiet rooms.
  
  Location is a bit away from the city centre but this is a spa hotel so a bit further out allows space for the lovely grounds that the spa and sports facilities were in. We walked to the centre of Hamburg in around 30 mins which is fine for us but the Mundsburg U Bahn is only a ten minute walk away and there is a bus stop right outside.
  
  The surrounding area itself is nice and there are interesting shops and some very friendly pubs. We kept calling it the "Didsbury of Hamburg" for any readers who know Manchester!!

  Room was a great size – bathroom also reasonable. Good aircon/heating – and ability to open windows a huge plus. The location is a fresh walk into the centre of town – but the local area also has much to offer. I would recommend dining locally when possible – some fantastic family-run places.
  
  What could be improved: Car parking is expensive at €20 per day. Also the Spa is a NAKED spa – no swimming costumes allowed. This is very normal for Germany, but for most other nations, is not a comfortable arrangement.

  Clean and comfortable place for a staycation – the spa area is lovely and the fact that one can use it on both the day of check in and check out is great value for money!

  Modern hotel with a sport center (open to non-guests), therefore great equipment from tennis courts to swimming pool, spa, restaurant, etc. Large modern rooms with all the facilities (kettle, minibar, safe, ironing board, hair dryer, etc). We choose this hotel for the spa center and we were not disappointed : two outdoor pools, one indoor (closed for repairs, but the other equipments made for the compensation), steam bath, 6 saunas, quiet room, large garden with transats for resting,. All fantastic. Note that the spa, like most of the times in Germany, is textile-free). Parking facility underground in the hotel. Bus stop direct to the city center is in front of the hotel, 20 min drive by bus or car. Tube station (to go to Reeperbahn street for instance) is 10 min walk, then 8 stops. The area is nery bourgeois, some ok restaurants nearby, the lake is 2 minutes away, nice stroll, including walking up to the city center (25 min walk). All perfect
  
  What could be improved: 20€ per night for the parking, I thought this was not justified, considering the space available and the price of the rooms.
  For the rest, all perfect. Would love to come back.
