B&B Hotel Hamburg City-Ost Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to B&B Hotel Hamburg City-Ost, you’ll notice it’s one of those straightforward, no-nonsense places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The building sits on Anckelmannstraße in a quiet residential area that feels authentically German — you know, the kind of neighborhood where locals actually live and work. It’s a three-star property, and honestly, that’s exactly what it delivers without any pretense. The hotel represents a refreshing approach to budget accommodation, focusing on reliability and cleanliness rather than unnecessary frills.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciated about the location in Hamburg — you’re in the City-Ost district, which means you get that local vibe without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. The area around the hotel is pretty residential, so it’s quiet at night (couples seem to love this aspect, actually). You’re not walking distance to the Speicherstadt or Reeperbahn, but the public transport connections are solid. There’s something refreshing about staying where Hamburg residents actually live their daily lives, rather than being trapped in the tourist bubble downtown. The neighborhood offers an authentic glimpse into local culture and daily rhythms.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — think modern budget hotel done right. The beds are comfortable enough, and the bathroom is compact but well-designed. You won’t find any fancy amenities or designer touches, but everything works as it should. The windows are decent-sized, so you get natural light during the day, and the heating system actually keeps the space warm (which isn’t always a given in German hotels, I’ve learned). Each room is thoughtfully laid out to maximize comfort within its compact footprint.

Breakfast & Practical Matters

The continental breakfast buffet is where this place really shows its value. It’s not elaborate, but they cover all the basics — fresh bread, cold cuts, cheese, coffee that doesn’t taste like water. You know what impressed me most? The parking situation. They actually have private parking on-site, which is honestly a huge relief in Hamburg where street parking can be a nightmare. For a budget-friendly hotel, having your own secure spot is worth its weight in gold. The combination of solid breakfast offerings and convenient parking makes this property particularly practical for travelers with vehicles.

Why Guests Love It

This hotel works because it knows exactly what it is — a reliable, clean place to sleep without breaking the bank. The staff keeps things running smoothly without being overly chatty, and the whole operation feels efficient. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the quieter neighborhood setting and the fact that you can actually get a good night’s sleep here. It’s not going to wow you with amenities or location, but sometimes you just need a solid base for exploring Hamburg, and that’s exactly what you get. The property delivers consistent quality and genuine value for budget-conscious travelers.

Visitors often choose Hamburg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Hanseatic city.

Reviews of B&B Hotel Hamburg City-Ost

  • Kevin from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (8/10)

Great value. Great location – short/cheap train from airport and similar to/from Messe.

  • Beatrice from Romania – 5 May 2025 (8/10)

The room was clean and the check-in was fast. No check-out formalities. Did not interract much with the staff because we did not need to.

What could be improved: in the room there were 5 big books about how/why to save the planet, and also some brochures in this subject- seems to me that too many trees got cut down to raise awareness on the subject of saving the planet. We have internet for that information.

  • Kevin from United Kingdom – 14 April 2025 (8/10)

Convenient location for travelling. Especially from Airport and Messe events. Staff friendly and breakfast good value.

What could be improved: No tea/coffee facilities in room. Aircon/heating is centrally controlled so had to sleep with window open which is not great near the railway. I was too tired to mind but if I'd been sleeping light then it could have been an issue.

  • Lia from Brazil – 10 February 2025 (9/10)

Everything tidy and clean, well organized, fun ground floor area but very silent in the room

What could be improved: A bit far off the main attractions

  • Constanza from Chile – 1 February 2025 (8/10)

    The staff

  • Eugene from Lithuania – 29 January 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is located close to U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations, but there are almost no food outlets nearby. The room is clean and has all the amenities. Despite the railway line and construction right opposite the window, with the windows closed you can hardly hear any noise. There is also good sound insulation between the rooms and the corridor. Self check-in kiosks and no need to check-out. The staff is friendly. Cleaning almost every day at a convenient time.

What could be improved: The coffee vending machine in the rest area was broken at least for a week. You can't control the AC temperature, the only option is 25°. The creepiest place in the city (August-Bebel-Park) is on the way from the city center to the hotel, try to avoid it, especially at night 😂

  • Christopher from Austria – 27 January 2025 (8/10)

Good location close to a train station, allowing quick access to the nearby CCH

What could be improved: Snack vending machines and one elevator broken

  • Kocak from Sweden – 23 January 2025 (8/10)

Everything was as shown in the pictures and explanation. Room was clean and roomy enough. Quite close to the public transport.

  • Jan from Czech Republic – 31 October 2024 (8/10)

    Easy check-in and -out.
    Pretty good breakfast.
    Close to U-bahn station.
We had a small issue with a bathroom sink in the evening, and it was fixed immediately.

What could be improved: There could be a warm buffet at breakfast .
The hotel surroundings are a bit noisy.

  • Miroslav from Slovakia – 14 October 2024 (9/10)

Nice and clean room, great breakfast.

    What could be improved: Nothing
