Best Western Premier Alsterkrug Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Best Western Premier Alsterkrug Hotel honestly feels like discovering one of Hamburg’s better-kept secrets. The lobby has this understated elegance that immediately tells you this isn’t your typical chain hotel — there’s actually some thought put into the design here. You know what strikes me most? It’s how the staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, which sets the tone for everything else. The attention to detail in every corner reflects a commitment to guest satisfaction that goes beyond standard hospitality.
The Alster District Advantage
The location in Hamburg is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re tucked away in the Alster area, which means you get that peaceful, almost residential feel while still being connected to the city center. I mean, couples consistently rate this spot highly for good reason — there’s something romantic about being near the water without all the tourist chaos. The neighborhood has this authentic Hamburg vibe that you just don’t get when you’re staying right in the thick of things downtown. The proximity to local attractions and cultural venues makes it an ideal base for exploring the city.
Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what I’d call thoughtfully designed — not flashy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The four-star rating feels accurate here; you’re getting solid comfort without any pretense. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details — good lighting for actually reading, decent storage space, and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re playing Tetris every time you turn around. The beds are genuinely comfortable, which honestly matters more than all the fancy extras some places try to throw at you. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with functional design throughout the accommodations.
Breakfast and Dining
The breakfast situation here is actually impressive — they’ve got this buffet setup that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of. Continental classics, vegetarian options, vegan choices, even gluten-free selections that don’t feel like an afterthought. I was surprised by the quality, especially the local touches that give you a real taste of northern German breakfast culture. The restaurant area has this warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes lingering over coffee feel natural rather than rushed. The culinary offerings reflect a genuine commitment to guest preferences and regional flavors.
Why Guests Love It
There’s parking right at the hotel, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Hamburg by car will tell you is worth its weight in gold. But beyond the practical stuff, this place just gets the balance right — professional service without stuffiness, comfortable accommodations without unnecessary frills. The 8.2 rating from guests makes perfect sense when you experience how everything here works smoothly together. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re experiencing Hamburg authentically, rather than just passing through it. Every element contributes to an overall experience that resonates with travelers seeking genuine hospitality.
Best hotels in Hamburg blend rooftop saunas, Nordic tasting menus, and glass atriums watching harbor lights.

Room very clean, staff very kind.
What could be improved: The problem was that before checking out I was very surprised to find out from the front desk that I have an 8-day fee to pay. City tax… 51 Euro it wasn't included in the hotel price booking…😒😒🙃 Doesn't seem fair to me…. I was visiting Hamburg for a few days …. Why do tourists have to pay this tax?Mohamad from Jordan – 23 November 2024 (7/10)

The room was nice and clean, the breakfast was OK too. The location is near the airport which makes it convenient when travelling by plane.
What could be improved: It was a bit loud during the night as the hotel is next to a main boulevard.Torben from Denmark – 3 September 2024 (9/10)

The property has a really good location in an amazing district. The city center is very good approachable within only 30 mins (15 mins walk and 15 mins subway).
The hotel has a very nice bar and a restaurant with a delicious food. The stuff at the bar and in the restaurant are very polite and most helpful. We were placed at the restaurant without a reservation and we enjoyed how funny and comfortable our waitress was.
The hotel has also a spa zone with saunas which we used every evening.
The room was big (we were 3) with very comfortable beds. It was really clean and stylish. We enjoyed staying in our room, even ordered room service (fee is 5€ which is okay). The bathroom is spacious and clean
What could be improved: We were offered an online check in, we were used and checked in at the hotel with a QR code. That was easy and fast. I even asked a worker at the reception if we needed to pay, and he said we pay when we check out. However at the same evening I received I found a letter in my room which said there was a problem with our check in and the hotel policy and I should address it the next time I’m at the reception, which is did. The lady at the reception explained to me that the hotel policy requires paying at the check in and i should pay now. I paid of course, I mean it did matter to me if I pay now or at the check out, but it really left me questioned what is the point of the online check in. If the hotel policy really required me paying at the beginning how did I get the key for my room at the check-in-kiosk. Why it didn’t say there please pay to get the key. So I really hope it wasn’t because I have other nationality and they had a suspicion whether I’m gonna pay or not.
The resting room in the sauna isn’t well isolated. One hears many noises from outside, people are loud (which is of course is not hotels fault). But I believe a light music in the rest room could change a lot to the positive.Amanda-jane from United Kingdom – 10 February 2024 (9/10)
Great sauna complex, very helpful and friendly staff. Recommended!

The room was very spacious, the bathroom was fairly large too and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was also of very good quality and had a good range of options. Good location, close to some grocery shopping (a Lidl is very close by) and with good connection to the airport (busses leave right outside the hotel).
What could be improved: When I asked during the booking that we were assigned a quiet room, the only answer was that I could pay 15 euros per night for an upgrade. This is very poor customer service – just assign us a room away from the main road (which you did not do), which should not come at extra cost. Also, the prices overall were a bit too steep. Yes, this is a very good hotel and a very good breakfast but for the prices charged I would have expected both to be great/exceptional.
