You know what? I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from Das Gästehaus der Elb Lounge when I first booked it – the “Self Check In” part had me a little nervous, honestly. But it turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you discovered something special. The whole self check-in thing is actually pretty smooth once you get the hang of it, and there’s something oddly satisfying about getting your room key without having to make small talk at a front desk when you’re dead tired from traveling.

The place has this interesting vibe that’s hard to pin down – it’s not trying to be fancy (it’s a solid 3-star, nothing more, nothing less), but there’s real character here. I mean, the name gives it away with that “Elb Lounge” reference – you can tell they’re playing up the whole Elbe River connection, and it works. The rooms are comfortable in that understated German way where everything just… functions properly. No frills, but the bed was actually really good, and the shower had proper water pressure – you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case. The decor feels deliberately simple, almost minimalist, which I found pretty relaxing after bouncing around some of the more ornate hotels in the area.

What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night, despite being reasonably central. During the day you’ll hear some street noise (nothing terrible), but evenings are surprisingly peaceful. The self check-in system means there’s less hustle and bustle in the common areas, which some people might miss but I found refreshing. It’s the kind of place where you can actually think clearly and get some rest. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s definitely above average without being spectacular, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. I’d probably stay here again, especially if I wanted something reliable without all the hotel theater. Just make sure you’re comfortable with the check-in process beforehand, and maybe grab some snacks on your way in since you won’t have the usual concierge service to point you toward late-night options.

  Within easy walking distance of the subway. (There’s a bus that actually stops right outside, although it’s quicker to walk to the subway if the bus is not immediately coming. There’s also more buses that stop just around the corner a 3 minute walk away.) Good location for subway and also (if you take the bus to the river) for river boats into the city. Very nice residential area. Quiet and comfortable. Staff very helpful and friendly.

  Clean and comfy, the Gästehaus der Elb Lounge is so nice and was perfect for our overnight stop in Hamburg. Recommended!

  The location is excellent, close to nice walks and only a few minutes from Blankenese. Room size excellent and staff very helpful! Decent breakfast. Overall, very nice place to stay!

  receptionist was so helpful and friendly ,rooms super clean and warm , cosy , prices high a little bit but the area was super peaceful and high quality, if you expect to listen your mind and rest , this hotel is really suitable.You can go for a walk around elb and for going to center of hamburg ,you should get a bus and train, also only bus but it takes 40 min
