You know, I’ve stayed at plenty of fancy hotels in Hamburg, but the Fairmont Vier Jahreszeiten just hits different. Walking into that lobby for the first time – honestly, it’s one of those moments where you actually stop and take it in. The place has this old-world elegance that doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious, which is harder to pull off than you’d think. It’s right there on Neuer Jungfernstieg overlooking the Binnenalster, and I mean, you really can’t get more Hamburg than that view of the lake with all those white sails dotting the water.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the city. The concierge didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – he actually marked up spots where locals go, like this little café tucked away near the Rathaus that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are spacious in a way that feels authentically European, not like they’re trying to copy American hotel standards. Mine had these tall windows that actually opened (thank god), and the bathroom marble felt substantial, you know? Not that fake composite stuff you see everywhere now. I will say the Wi-Fi was a bit patchy on the higher floors – not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning if you’re planning to work from your room.

The restaurant situation is actually where this place shines brightest. Their main dining room does this regional German cuisine that’s elevated but not fussy, and the wine list – well, let’s just say I discovered some Rieslings I’m still thinking about months later. Breakfast was one of those sprawling affairs with everything from proper German breads to smoked fish, and they don’t rush you out even when it gets busy around 9 AM. The bar area gets this nice local crowd mixing with hotel guests, especially on weekends, which gives it more character than your typical hotel scene. Parking is valet-only and costs extra, but honestly, in that part of the city you’re better off just leaving the car with them anyway. The whole Alster area gets pretty congested, and you’ll be walking to most of the good spots – the shopping arcades, the harbor, those great little wine bars in the old merchant quarter. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Hamburg the way it’s meant to be experienced, not just passing through it.

  Service throughout the hotel, Decor of the Hotel, Language skills (English), Cleaning, Restaurant, Breakfast, Easy parking, Corridors and Furniture in general, the Wellness area – everything was furnished with such a good taste – and the room was SO nicely decorated with the possibility of dimming the light in all 6 lamps!, sufficient number of electrical outlets, with the possibility of making the room 100% dark, mosquito net, and the Bathroom was absolutely "Over the top" with: Heater for the towels (and it was switched on), heating in the floor, both a tub and a shower, good and descaled showers, good products in general in the bathroom including conditioner and all you may need in toiletries, fog-free mirror (and/or good ventilation), towels in different sizes (and enough of them) – high, high, high QUALITY in everything!!!

  I liked the beautifully equipped gym, discrete turndown service, lake views, exquisite cocktails at the Martini Bar and innovative food at Nikkei Nine.

  What could be improved: There was a mouse in the Wohnhalle Lobby bar – on friday night, Jan 24. When we told it to the staff, they did not react. The mouse was by the windows towards the water.
