GRAND ELYSEE Hamburg Overview
You know what struck me first about the GRAND ELYSEE Hamburg? It’s this massive, almost theatrical presence that somehow doesn’t feel stuffy or intimidating once you’re inside. I mean, the name pretty much tells you what you’re getting into – it’s grand, alright – but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about how they handle that grandeur.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re in the heart of Hamburg without being stuck in tourist central. You’re close enough to walk to the Alster lakes when you need that quintessential Hamburg moment (you know, the one where you’re strolling along the water pretending you live there), but you’re also within striking distance of the Reeperbahn if that’s your thing. The staff actually seems to know the city beyond the usual hotel recommendations – I had someone give me directions to this tiny bookshop that I never would’ve found otherwise, and they knew exactly which U-Bahn entrance to use to avoid the construction mess that’s been going on forever near Jungfernstieg. Speaking of getting around, the parking situation is way better than most places in the city center, which honestly saves you a headache if you’re driving.
What really sets this place apart – and I think this is why it maintains that 8.9 rating – is how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being precious about it. The rooms have this solid, well-thought-out quality where everything just works. I’m talking about proper blackout curtains (not those flimsy things that let streetlight creep in), shower pressure that actually means business, and – this might sound weird but hear me out – the kind of quiet that makes you realize how rare that is in a busy city. Even on weekends when Hamburg gets properly lively, you’re not lying there listening to every conversation from the street. The housekeeping is the kind where they notice small things… like, they’ll adjust the blinds just so, or fold your thrown-over-the-chair jacket in a way that feels thoughtful rather than intrusive. It’s those details that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually cares about the experience, not just processing guests through rooms. Sure, five-star prices mean five-star expectations, but they deliver on that promise without making you feel like you’re performing luxury rather than enjoying it.

What could be improved: Room did not offer any tea or coffee option. Had to go down to breakfast to get a coffee.Sarah from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (9/10)
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The facilities were exceptional.
What could be improved: N/ATomislav from Croatia – 27 March 2025 (9/10)
Nice breakfast, reasonably friendly staff, good sauna and great pool.
What could be improved: There were few issues in the room, almost made it look haunted. TV wasn't always functional due to possibly heavy network usage (booked during conference), battery of the safe was depleted, one lamp was constantly blinking.Mark from Germany – 26 March 2025 (9/10)
Perfect! The location, the hotel, the staff, the spa, the room, the restaurants, breakfast. Everything was first class.
Liying from Hong Kong – 11 March 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location, cozy room, good facility and very friendly with professional trained staffs.
What could be improved: The room we stayed looked little bit old. And if the hotel could offer the coffee machine and water Boiler in the room, it would be perfect.Roanne from United States – 9 March 2025 (9/10)
The buffet breakfast was excellent (e.g., lots of hot and cold food choices, quality food, excellent service, longer service hours than some hotel breakfasts). Also, the location was extremely convenient near Dammator Station, the University, Alster Lake, and parks. We walked everywhere, although a taxi was always outside the entrance to the hotel. The fact that there was a spa there was nice, too.

The property was lovely, nice restaurants and bars. Room was great.
What could be improved: It was disappointing that the pool area and jacuzzi was so overcrowded even at 19:00.
