You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from the Hamburger Perle am Gänsemarkt – I mean, the name’s a bit of a mouthful and honestly sounds more like a restaurant than a hotel. But this little 3-star gem actually surprised me in the best way possible. Walking up to it, you’re right there where all the action happens around Gänsemarkt, which locals will tell you is pretty much the heart of Hamburg’s shopping district. The Binnenalster is literally a stone’s throw away, and I found myself taking these incredible evening walks along the water without having to plan anything or catch transport.

The thing about this place is that it feels authentically Hamburg – not trying too hard to be fancy, but solid and welcoming in that northern German way. My room was clean and comfortable (nothing groundbreaking, but you know, sometimes that’s exactly what you need), and the staff actually seemed to care about making sure I had what I needed. I appreciated that they knew the neighborhood inside and out – when I asked about finding a good local brewery that wasn’t crawling with tourists, the front desk guy immediately pointed me toward a spot just off Mönckebergstraße that ended up being perfect. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience a city properly.

What really sold me on this place was the morning routine I developed. I’d grab coffee from this tiny place around the corner (the hotel breakfast was decent but nothing special, if I’m being honest), then walk over to the Alster and just watch Hamburg wake up. Being right there between the Gänsemarkt and the water means you’re genuinely in the middle of everything without feeling overwhelmed by it. The shopping is obviously right there if that’s your thing, but you can also just wander toward the Rathaus or duck into one of those narrow streets that lead to the old merchant quarter. And here’s something I didn’t expect – evenings were surprisingly quiet for being so central. Sure, there’s activity, but it’s not party-central loud, more like the gentle hum of people actually living their lives. I slept better than I expected to, which for someone who’s usually sensitive to city noise, was a real win.

  Locatie is ideaal, echter het appartement ligt op de 4e etage zonder lift. Dit wordt niet vermeld op de website. De vloeren zijn scheef geeft onstabiel gevoel. Geen afzuigkap of afzuiging bij keukentje wat in de gang is. De bank bedden zijn niet comfortabel zoals vermeld maar zeer slecht. Zit een bult in het midden en voeteneinde loopt af. Te weinig badlakens we kwamen er vier te kort. Hier echter geen melding over gedaan. Dus kan zeker beter. Ondanks dat is het een leuk appartement en als het niet op de bovenverdieping lag zou ik het weer boeken voor een kort verblijf.

  Podobało mi się prawie wszystko. Mieszkanie duże, dobrze wyposażone, zadbane, z fajnym widokiem.
  
  What could be improved: Brak windy, a na 4 piętro z walizkami było ciężko. Bardzo mało miejsca przy jednopalnikowej płycie grzewczej. Myślę, że można byłoby ją postawić w salonie, byłoby lepiej. Łazienka nadaje się do remontu, ale była czysta, a to najważniejsze:)

  Die Wohnung an sich und die top Lage hat uns sehr gut gefallen.
  
  What could be improved: Das die Wohnung im 4. Stock ohne Aufzug liegt, wurde irgendwie nirgends erwähnt – wir hatten einen Kinderwagen dabei, welchen wir immer mit ganz hoch tragen mussten, da im Gang/Treppenhaus kein Platz ist.
