You know what struck me first about Homaris Strandhaus Blankenese? It’s that feeling of stumbling onto something quietly special tucked away in one of Hamburg’s most charming neighborhoods. I mean, Blankenese itself is already this hillside gem along the Elbe – all those winding stairs and villa-lined streets that make you feel like you’ve wandered into a storybook version of coastal Germany.

The hotel honestly feels more like a well-kept guesthouse than your typical three-star property, which actually works in its favor. There’s this unpretentious warmth to the place that I really appreciated. The rooms are straightforward but comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything you need is there and it’s all quite clean and thoughtfully arranged. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night; you’re close enough to the Elbe that you can actually hear the water if you open your window, especially during those long summer evenings when the riverfront stays lively until late. The staff genuinely seem to know the area well too – they pointed me toward this little bakery just down the hill that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on when to catch the ferry to avoid the weekend crowds.

Here’s the thing about staying in Blankenese though – you’re trading convenience for character, and honestly, it’s worth it if you don’t mind a bit of adventure getting around. The S-Bahn station is walkable but it’s definitely a walk, especially if you’ve got luggage (those Blankenese hills are no joke). But once you’re settled, you’ve got the Elbe beach practically at your doorstep, and some of the best sunset views in Hamburg from the nearby Süllberg. I’d skip this place if you’re planning to spend most of your time in the city center – the commute gets old fast. But if you want to experience Hamburg like locals do, with morning walks along the river and that slower pace that comes with staying in an actual neighborhood rather than a tourist zone, then Homaris Strandhaus really delivers. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s solid and genuine without trying to be something it’s not.

  The location was very good. The bus station was just in front of the hotel. The room was clean and there was an iron an electric heater in the room.
  
  What could be improved: There is no elevator and its a bit difficult to carry heavy luggages upstairs.

  The location is really nice, in a calm neighborhood with the river right outside. There are restaurants close by, even though the center is a few kilometers away. The accommodations were very nice with a common area terrace facing the river.

  the location has a strong nautical feel abut it and is a beautiful part of Hamburg. the property stands right in the middle of the promenade and commands a direct view to the sea. It is very well furnished to a high standard and has a remarkable common balcony, which overlooks the beach.

  What could be improved: in the particular room we had 204, the cupboard hindered the movement when the sofa bed was opened. one does nor heed a full width cupboard, just half the width would have been sufficient.

  Very Clean, German "near perfect cleanliness" – basic interior, all white, easy mechanical check-in, quite complicated instructions but manageable. Amazing location, directly in front of the water.
  
  What could be improved: Staff is minimal, focussed on the restaurant – the instructions of checkin using Homaris are complex, you may find it too complex if you are not German – it was fine for me.
