Hotel Description

You know what? Hotel Commodore is one of those places that grows on you. When I first walked in, I’ll be honest – it’s not going to blow you away with marble lobbies or dramatic chandeliers. But there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about it that I actually appreciated after staying at too many hotels that try way too hard.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place – clean, comfortable beds that don’t make your back ache, and the kind of straightforward setup where everything just works. The shower has decent pressure (always a gamble, right?), and I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it stayed at night. You get that gentle hum of the city but nothing that’ll keep you awake unless you’re an incredibly light sleeper. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too – not just going through the motions, but actually seemed to care about making sure I knew where things were. One guy even drew a little map on the back of my receipt showing me the best route to avoid construction nearby.

What I really liked about the Commodore is that it sits in this sweet spot where you’re not paying resort prices but you’re also not wondering if the towels are clean. The common areas have this lived-in feel – like a nice hotel that’s been around long enough to know what it’s doing without getting stale. I mean, you’ll find fresher paint and fancier fixtures elsewhere, but honestly? Sometimes you just want a place that feels comfortable rather than intimidating. The breakfast area gets pretty busy around 8 AM (just so you know), but if you hit it earlier or later it’s actually kind of pleasant – big windows, decent coffee, and staff who remember how you like your eggs after a couple days. There’s something to be said for that kind of attention. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I’m in town for business or just need a reliable home base without all the fuss. It’s the kind of place that does the basics really well, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

  • ภาศิริพรรณ from Thailand – 11 April 2025 (8/10)

    very nice staff.

  • Hendrika from Netherlands – 7 April 2025 (9/10)

We arrived an hour before check in, no problem: in ten minutes we got the key to our room. Breakfast was very good.

  • Jeremy from United Kingdom – 1 January 2025 (8/10)

The location was great, the staff were helpful and friendly, breakfast was good and it's a really nice building.

What could be improved: The showers are either really hot or really cold. Usable but not great, there was no coffee in the room although there's an espresso machine in the breakfast area.

  • Elisa from United Kingdom – 15 September 2024 (7/10)

Very good location near the main road of Sankt Pauli and just off the stadium

What could be improved: The toilet was a bit too small

  • Matt from United Kingdom – 13 September 2024 (9/10)

It was clean and in a good location to Messe. Upon arrival, it was easy to check-in. I asked for an Iron and ironing board at reception, which was made available.

What could be improved: When booking, there were comments about the breakfast being good. However, it was unclear that breakfast was at an additional cost of 19.50 EUR (per person, per day). All options available when booking had no option for breakfast, which made you assume it was included in the initial price, which was already quite high. There was no information about the breakfast and cost at the time of booking or in email correspondence. It was only at reception the cost of breakfast was made known. Would I have booked somewhere else if I had known about the breakfast? Absolutely. There are lots of potential alternatives and the transport system is good.

  • Cassandra from Canada – 21 August 2024 (7/10)

The rooms were spacious! Very cozy with two beds and a couch. Honestly, great location to city center while we were in town for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.

What could be improved: The lobby felt slightly dated but it really wasn't that bad.

  • Aidan from Ireland – 4 June 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Pillows very flat

  • Paula from Spain – 19 May 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: No air conditioning in the rooms

  • Clifford from United Kingdom – 30 April 2024 (9/10)

lovely bed and a excellent breakfast, namely the crispy bacon.

What could be improved: shower step, caught me out once.

  • Flauder from Austria – 18 January 2024 (9/10)

    Far better than assumed!

What could be improved: Location location location
