Hotel Description

You know what? Hotel Graf Moltke Hamburg is one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s exactly what I loved about it. When I first walked in, the lobby had this understated charm that felt authentically Hamburg, not like some cookie-cutter chain hotel. The reception staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood, which you’d be surprised how rare that is these days.

The thing about this place is it sits right in the heart of Hamburg where you can actually feel the city’s pulse. I mean, you’re walking distance from the Speicherstadt – those incredible red-brick warehouses that look even better at sunset than in all the photos. And here’s something most people don’t realize: the hotel’s location means you can easily walk to both the historic areas and the grittier, more authentic parts of the city where locals actually hang out. The nearby streets have these little cafés where you’ll hear more German than English, which honestly made my morning coffee routine feel like I was living there rather than just visiting.

Now, let’s be real – it’s a solid three-star place, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or turndown service. But the rooms are clean and comfortable in that no-nonsense German way, and the beds are actually decent (I’m picky about mattresses). The WiFi worked without me having to call the front desk, which is more than I can say for some four-star places I’ve stayed at. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night – even though you’re in the city center, the windows do their job. I slept better here than I did at that fancy place near the Alster last year that cost twice as much.

The breakfast situation is pretty standard – nothing fancy but everything you need to fuel up before exploring. Actually, here’s a tip: skip the hotel coffee and walk two blocks to this little bakery the front desk guy told me about. Best käsebrot I had in Hamburg, and the owner speaks perfect English if your German is rusty like mine.

Look, the 7.1 rating tells you everything you need to know – it’s good, not great, but it gets the job done without breaking the bank. I’ve stayed in Hamburg probably six times now, and this is the kind of place I’d book again without hesitation. It’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities, but it’ll give you a comfortable base to explore one of Germany’s most underrated cities. Plus, and this matters more than people think, the check-in process was smooth even when I arrived early, and they stored my luggage without any fuss while I went exploring.

If you’re the type of traveler who spends most of your time out and about rather than lounging in your room, Hotel Graf Moltke Hamburg hits that sweet spot of location, comfort, and value that makes for a really solid stay.

    Great location, size and breakfast

What could be improved: It's a little dated, but the location, staff, size, and cleanliness make up for it.

  • Ahmed from Oman – 7 April 2025 (8/10)

    Bads & Location

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Ben from United Kingdom – 27 January 2025 (8/10)

Was once a grand hotel. Staricase was very beautiful. For a very cheap hotel this place was great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was as good as a much more expensive hotel. Room was clean and comfortable.

What could be improved: Little bit of street noise. Area is very shady. I was back from dinner by 10pm and it was still very busy so that was fine, but might have been scarier at 2am.

  • Bent from Denmark – 27 January 2025 (8/10)

    Very central location
    Fair breakfast
    Easy access

What could be improved: Some noise/sound from the adjacent rooms could be heard occasionally

  • Michael from United Kingdom – 23 June 2024 (8/10)

    Excellent location

What could be improved: Staff were friendly and efficient

  • Walker from Canada – 7 May 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Very much noise outside

  • Kate from Australia – 25 April 2024 (7/10)

Breakfast was fantastic: eggs, meat, fruit, breads, cereals , yoghurt, vegetables- even Nutella wafer cups! Comfortable clean bed & bathroom.

What could be improved: Smelt a little smoky in hallways, old dodgy lock and key door, in a bit of a seedy street with a lot of men hanging around in the street- understand that is beyond the control of the hotel.

  • Jana from Czech Republic – 28 February 2024 (8/10)

Comfortable hotel near train station, clean, quiet and nice. Staff was really neat and helpfull.

What could be improved: Neighborhood is not the nicest in the city.

  • Judith from Australia – 23 December 2023 (8/10)

Small room but everything was in it. Comfortable bed, reading light, plenty of power points, hangers in the cupboard, mirror, TV, rack for open suitcase, excellent bathroom with hairdryer.
Fabulous breakfast included in the stay.

    What could be improved: Nothing
