Hotel Description
You know what? Hotel Hanseport Hamburg really surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first saw it from the street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But sometimes those assumptions bite you in the ass, and this was definitely one of those times.
The thing about this hotel is that it just works. I mean, Hamburg can be tricky with accommodations – you’re either paying through the nose for something fancy in the Speicherstadt area, or you’re stuck way out in some industrial zone wondering why you bothered. But Hanseport sits in this sweet spot where you actually feel like you’re in Hamburg, not just visiting it. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful (not that rehearsed tourism-board helpfulness), and honestly, they seemed to know their city pretty well when I asked about getting around.
The rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they’re solid – clean, quiet enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway, and the beds are actually comfortable. I stayed on the third floor and could hear some street noise during the day, but nothing that kept me awake at night. The shower had proper water pressure, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong. What I really appreciated was the little things – decent Wi-Fi that didn’t cut out every ten minutes, blackout curtains that actually blocked light, and enough outlets near the bed that I didn’t have to choose between charging my phone and using the lamp.
Location-wise, it’s one of those spots where you can walk to the good stuff without feeling like you’re on a forced march. The U-Bahn connections are solid, and there’s this great little Turkish place about two blocks away that locals actually eat at – not just tourists. I found myself grabbing coffee there most mornings instead of paying hotel prices. The Elbe isn’t far if you want to walk along the water, and you’re close enough to Sternschanze that you can check out the nightlife without needing a taxi back (though late-night walking felt perfectly safe).
Here’s the thing though – don’t expect luxury touches. The lobby’s functional but not Instagram-worthy, and the breakfast is decent continental stuff, nothing fancy. But that 8.1 rating makes sense when you think about what this place is actually trying to do. It’s not pretending to be something it’s not, and in a city where you can easily drop 200 euros a night for mediocre accommodations with a better address, Hanseport delivers exactly what you need without the markup. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to actually explore Hamburg rather than just hiding in my hotel room.

The Hotel was very clean , Staff was friendly, Breakfast was good and plenty
What could be improved: The only thing I could suggest is a bathroom upgrade. Otherwise, it was a very comfortable stay.Davies from United Kingdom – 8 January 2025 (8/10)
Very friendly staff, always willing to help
What could be improved: Only got coffee in my room the first dayMarina from Germany – 17 December 2024 (8/10)
Location is amazing, everything was very clean, 24 hrs reception.
What could be improved: Wasn’t very soundproof towards the hallway. We heard the cleaning cart from very early on and people passing by.
Shower could have been better.Susan from Australia – 2 September 2024 (8/10)
Breakfast was great! Plenty of it and plenty of choice.
What could be improved: At nighttime we discovered that there was a disco or noisy club in the vicinity which detracted from our sleep. The noise went on for a long time.Felix from Sweden – 1 August 2024 (8/10)
Remarkably quiet considering it is located in the very busy St Pauli district and the famous Reeperbahn a stones throw away.
What could be improved: Lack of parking.Andrew from India – 11 May 2024 (9/10)
Very comfortable spacious room, and quiet too, much appreciated given the location. Kettle and tea was a plus. Breakfast was very good. Overall a great choice.
What could be improved: Well, the location was a challenge, in the lively, and sleazy, St Pauli district, but it was also close to the Elbe, the U Bahn, and the city.Adrian from Australia – 23 April 2023 (8/10)
The room was nice. Breakfast was great.
What could be improved: No fridge in the room. When hiring a hotel room, I do note leave my room key with front desk staff when going out. I would have no problem paying a key deposit.Kieran from Ireland – 1 March 2023 (8/10)
This hotel was in a good location, a short walk to Reeperbahn Sbahn station. The area is full of young girls working the streets at night who all come after you "offering their services" which is a bit off-putting but otherwise it was ok. Plenty of bars around and some nice little restaurants. The staff were all very friendly and polite, especially the ladies at breakfast who are very attentive. The breakfast was very good. Nice selection, something for everyone to start the day. The price was good for a city center hotel – We stayed three nights from Sunday to Wednesday so maybe more expensive for weekend nights. The room was very clean and also very quiet considering the area it is located in.

Great property.
What could be improved: Little noisy at night in the summer when having windows open. No A/C so opening windows were a must at 30 degrees CelsiusNeslihan from Turkey – 6 October 2022 (8/10)
The breakfast is simply great. The staff was helpful and friendly. The beds were very comfortable. The cleaning staff was doing a good job. The employees helped me with the roads, described every place and showed me the way. 🙂 Thank you so much again.
What could be improved: Definitely, the only shortcoming of the hotel is WIFI. It was only in the lobby and the internet connection was cut off as soon as I left the lobby. Being without internet in our room was a bit annoying. And there were no slippers to walk the room.
