You know what? Hotel Imperial caught me off guard in the best possible way. I’ll be honest – when I first saw that 3-star rating, I was expecting something pretty basic, maybe even a little tired around the edges. But walking into the lobby, there’s this old-world charm that immediately makes you slow down and actually look around. The staff at check-in were genuinely friendly (not that scripted hotel politeness), and I could tell they actually knew the neighborhood when I asked about dinner spots.

The thing about Hotel Imperial is that it sits in this sweet spot where you’re getting solid comfort without any pretentious nonsense. My room was clean and honestly more spacious than I expected – not huge, but you’re not bumping into furniture every time you turn around. The bed was properly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had good water pressure, which… look, if you travel enough, you know that’s not a given even at fancier places. There’s no fancy spa or rooftop bar, but what they do have works well. The breakfast area gets decent morning light, and they actually brew real coffee, not that watery stuff some hotels try to pass off.

What really won me over was how the place feels lived-in rather than sterile. You’ll hear some street noise if you’re facing the main road – it’s not silent, but it’s not keeping you awake either, just the gentle hum of a neighborhood that’s actually alive. The evening crowd in the small lobby bar tends to be a mix of business travelers and couples, creating this relaxed atmosphere where you might actually strike up a conversation. I mean, the 7.1 rating makes sense when you think about it – this isn’t luxury, but it’s honest hospitality done right. If you’re looking for Instagram-perfect everything, you’ll probably want to spend more money elsewhere. But if you want a place that feels authentic, where the staff remembers your name by day two and where you can walk out the front door and immediately feel connected to the city rather than trapped in some tourist bubble, Hotel Imperial delivers exactly that.

  It was clean, almost completely soundproof (one could hear only the sounds outside of the door and from the street, but nothing from the other rooms) and comfortable. The stuff was polite and friendly. Breakfasts were classic German breakfasts: muesli, sandwiches etc.
  
  What could be improved: The door to the toilet: there was a door, but it was absolutely bad. It had holes, it was more like a curtain and not a door. You can see it on the photos.

  Breakfast was very good. The location is superb, surrounded by restaurants and bars.
  
  What could be improved: The room is extremely basic. Just a bed, 2 chairs a table and a wall-mounted cloths hanger. Would do well for a one-night stop.

  An older hotel but it was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Public transport close by. The hotel is right on Reeperbahn which is great if that's what you're after.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't consider just how rough and noisy Reeperbahn can be before booking in that location. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the hotel itself though, it was great for a night.
