You know what? The Leonardo Hotel Hamburg City Nord caught me off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first heard “City Nord,” I was expecting some sterile business district vibe, but this place actually works really well as a base for exploring Hamburg. The lobby has this clean, modern feel without being cold, and the staff at check-in were genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions.

The rooms are solid 4-star territory – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything you need is there and it’s done well. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have good water pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when you’re dealing with Hamburg’s unpredictable weather. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night. You’re close enough to the action but far enough from the Reeperbahn chaos that you can actually sleep. The windows do a decent job blocking out street noise, though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs just in case.

Here’s the thing about the location – it’s not right in the tourist heart of Hamburg, but that’s sort of the point. You’re in a more residential area where locals actually live and work, which I found refreshing after staying in overly touristy spots before. There’s a U-Bahn station nearby that gets you into the city center in about 15 minutes, and honestly, having that little buffer zone from the crowds was perfect. The breakfast spread is pretty comprehensive too – proper German bread selection, decent coffee, and they actually had fresh fruit that looked like someone cared about it. I mean, hotel breakfasts can be hit or miss, but this one kept me fueled for full days of wandering around the Speicherstadt and checking out the harbor. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to be anyone’s dream hotel, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re looking for something reliable in Hamburg without paying tourist-trap prices, this place makes sense.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Hamburg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous maritime festivals and outdoor concerts.

  Check-in at the Leonardo was super quick since I provided my information beforehand. The room was nice with a comfortable bed and great facilities. I also booked the breakfast, which was tasty with a good selection of cut meats, cheeses as well as sausages and bacon. They even put out a few vegan spreads and gluten-free bread. Overall, I definitely enjoyed my stay here. The location is not the most central but free parking is available and the hotel is connected well through public transportation. A Moia shuttle station is right outside the door of the hotel. Hamburg's city park is right across the street, making for a great stroll.
  
  What could be improved: Unfortunately, I only found out that the hotel has a sauna and fitness studio on my last morning and I couldn't use the facilities anymore by then. It would have been nice if the staff had pointed these out during check-in.

  Very clean room, sufficient amount of towels, all kind of lights available (I hate ceiling light, so for me it was amazing), very comfortable transportwise, there's a bus stop literally 100m away, the room was spacious enough to have two people simultaneously packing
  
  What could be improved: Elevator is extremely claustraphobic as it is very small, but the mirror on the ceiling does help. Also, there is no iron available in the room.

  Everything was good,
  Coffee in the room, as well as free hot drinks in reception! Excellent welcome entrance.
