Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of Motel Ones across Germany, and honestly? The Hamburg-Altona location really gets it right. When you first walk in, there’s this whole industrial-meets-cozy vibe going on – think exposed concrete softened with warm lighting and those signature turquoise accents they do so well. The lobby actually feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out, not just rush through to get to your room.

What I really appreciate about this spot is how it sits in Altona – you know, that part of Hamburg that feels more like a proper neighborhood than touristy city center. You’re close enough to hop on the S-Bahn and be at the Reeperbahn in maybe fifteen minutes, but you can also just wander around locally and find some genuinely good Turkish bakeries and those hole-in-the-wall bars that locals actually frequent. The area’s got this sort of multicultural energy that I mean, you just don’t get in the sanitized hotel districts. Plus (and this matters if you’re driving), parking isn’t completely insane here like it is closer to the harbor.

The rooms themselves are classic Motel One – compact but cleverly designed, with everything you actually need and nothing you don’t. The shower pressure is solid, the bed’s comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. Sure, the rooms aren’t huge, but honestly, when you’re paying what you pay here versus some overpriced chain hotel, it’s a no-brainer. The soundproofing is pretty decent too – I was there during what seemed like a busy weekend and didn’t get woken up by hallway noise or street sounds. One thing though – if you’re the type who needs a proper desk setup for work, the little shelf they give you might feel a bit tight. But the wifi is fast, and the lobby has these great communal work spaces if you need to spread out. The staff actually seem to know the neighborhood well too, which you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about good spots for breakfast nearby, the guy at reception didn’t just point me to the hotel’s own café – he sent me to this fantastic little place around the corner that does proper German breakfast platters. That kind of local knowledge makes all the difference, you know?

  The hotel is nice, the staff is friendly and helpful and has nice facilities and a nice breakfast in my opinion. Is well located with a bus stop right outside, and a few minutes away from the metro station. Has parking available as well at a 15 euro cost per day.
  
  What could be improved: The Hotel Parking sign should be replaced or repainted as it shows only one doesn't say Motel one, to be more visible.

  The staff at the reception was very welcoming and warm. I missed my phone charger, and they let me use their personal charger. Checkin and Checkout were super quick. Some hot food in the breakfast would be amazing. All in all, a very good stay and I would stay at this property again.

  What could be improved: Steps to get into the lobby make it tough for people with walking or climbing difficulties or heavy bags. They would have space to build a ramp if desired. I wonder how people in wheelchairs even get in. A different entrance?
