Hotel Description
You know what? The Relexa Hotel Bellevue an der Alster might not be the fanciest place in Hamburg, but there’s something really refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try too hard. When I first walked into the lobby, I actually appreciated how straightforward everything felt – no over-the-top marble or pretentious art installations, just a clean, modern space that gets the job done without any fuss.
The location is honestly the star here. I mean, you’re literally steps from the Alster, and if you snag one of the higher rooms (which, let’s be real, you should definitely request), you’ll wake up to those gorgeous water views that make Hamburg feel almost lakeside rather than industrial port city. The morning light reflecting off the water is pretty spectacular, especially in summer when the sailing boats are out early. What I loved most was being able to walk along the Alsterufer in the evenings – it’s this perfect tree-lined path where locals jog and couples stroll, and you feel like you’ve discovered Hamburg’s quieter side. The U-Bahn connections are solid too, though I found myself walking to the city center more often than expected because the route along the water is just so pleasant.
Now, this is a solid three-star property, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or turndown service – but honestly, that worked for me. The rooms are comfortable enough, with decent beds and reliable wifi (which actually matters more than people admit). The breakfast spread is pretty standard German hotel fare, but the coffee’s good and they don’t skimp on the bread selection. I will say the air conditioning can be a bit hit-or-miss during summer months, and some of the rooms facing the street pick up a fair amount of traffic noise – though it dies down significantly after 10 PM. The staff speaks excellent English and genuinely seems to know the neighborhood well; they pointed me toward this fantastic little brewery just a few blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise. For the price point, especially considering you’re getting those Alster views and easy access to both the business district and the more charming residential areas, it’s actually quite reasonable. If you’re the type who spends most of your time exploring rather than lounging in your room, and you appreciate being near water in a city that doesn’t always show off its prettier side, this place hits that sweet spot between budget-friendly and comfortable.

A bit of old worlde charm overlooking the Alster. Enjoy the walk to Jungfernsteig.
What could be improved: The hotel was a bit tired and creaky. But I guess part of its charm.Bernadette from Germany – 18 April 2024 (8/10)
Very good location directly across the Alster, not far from the main station.
Room was comfy, water pressure in the shower was great.
Breakfast buffet was good
What could be improved: Breakfast was 20€ per person which was fine but discovered after arriving back home and looking at the bill that we had to pay extra for the breakfast beverages. Next time I‘ll ask beforehand if drinks are included.Bronwyn from Australia – 19 January 2024 (8/10)
Clean, comfortable and cosy rooms, close to bus stop and restaurants

great location
What could be improved: I had upgraded to a room with a view of the lake following a prompt from booking.com that I could secure one for a higher rate after my initial booking; when I arrived the staff advised that a view of the lake wasn’t guaranteed for that rate and my room faced the car park. It was also noisy from other rooms and the hallwayJoost from Netherlands – 3 August 2023 (8/10)
Nice room in a quiet area, a minute walk from the Lange Reihe with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. Good size room for it being a one person room. The room is nicely decorated and has a comfy seat.
What could be improved: At €18 the breakfast is a bit expensive in my view. The parking garage entrance looked very narrow, I didn't even try to use it. The Wifi connection was on and off in my room.Willem from Belgium – 1 August 2023 (8/10)
Location is top.
Rooms are big and nice.
What could be improved: Personnel was not overly friendly.
All-in-all quite expensive, but this was generally the case for Hamburg.Sandra from Denmark – 13 September 2022 (8/10)
A very nice hotel in a great location for St. George. Has a quiet little courtyard to sit outside with a coffee or a drink. Room was spacious and the bed nice and firm.
There is on site parking for 12 euros per night. If you have an EV, there are 3 chargers available at no extra cost (1 for Tesla, 2 for other EVs).
What could be improved: Unfortunately there is no control with the parking. This means that petrol cars will take the spaces for EV cars. The spaces were simply occupied. We left our phone number at reception so that they could call us when the car could be moved, but this never happened. So check yourself, a space will open up. Fix this issue, and we will definately return.Michael from Germany – 19 August 2022 (8/10)
Excellent location and good Value for money

It's an old hotel, but very nice. Great location! Face the water front. Huge room. Walking distance to the central station.
What could be improved: The only downside was that we didn't find a good breakfast place close by.
