SIDE Hamburg completely caught me off guard – and I mean that in the best way possible. You know how some design hotels feel like they’re trying too hard to be cool? This place actually nails it without being pretentious about it. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about every detail, from the way light hits the lobby (which honestly feels more like a stylish friend’s living room) to the staff who seem genuinely happy to be there rather than just going through the motions.

What really sets SIDE apart is how it sits in Hamburg’s landscape. I mean, this is a city where old maritime charm crashes into cutting-edge culture, and somehow this hotel captures both sides of that personality. The rooms – well, they’re what you’d expect from a five-star spot, but with these unexpected touches that make you pause. Maybe it’s the way they’ve balanced minimalist design with actual comfort, or how the bathrooms feel spa-like without being cold. The beds are fantastic, by the way – that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough. And the soundproofing is solid, which matters more than you’d think in a city center location.

Here’s what I really appreciate though: SIDE doesn’t feel like it’s performing “luxury” for you. The service hits that sweet spot where people anticipate what you need without hovering, and there’s this relaxed confidence throughout the whole experience. Check-in was smooth (no standing around waiting), and when I had questions about getting around the city, the front desk actually gave me local insights rather than just pointing to a tourist map. The common areas buzz with this creative energy – you’ll see design types mixing with business travelers and tourists who clearly did their research. It’s the kind of place where you might actually want to hang out in the lobby with a drink, people-watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Honestly, for Hamburg, SIDE gets the balance right between being distinctly local and internationally sophisticated, which isn’t as easy as it sounds.

  Service, attentiveness, cleanness, friendliness, facilities, location…Excelent!
  
  What could be improved: We liked everything! Just a small remark on the evening staff at the reception on the day before my checkout, I made sure to remember my early checkout and the request for a packed lunch made on arrival, and this was not transmitted to the kitchen, which made us wait for an extra 12minutes before leaving to the station. But since we had a buffer time, this was no issue and we could arrive on time for our train home and enjoyed a tasty and fulfilling packed lunch 🙂

  Convenient located, near the downtown, shops, grocery, Messe, airport.. etc
  New contemporary look, staff very helpful and friendly and fast service.

  Excellent lo action for me . Right side office with many choices of F&B . Hotel lobby looks so pretty and I felt safe to stay there as a solo traveller .
  
  I stayed at level 8, where the lounge area is.
  
  Bed was comfortable , with air conditioning in room . Perfect.
  
  Good quality toiletries was a bonus !

  Clean, smart and good rooms.
  
  What could be improved: The AC doesn’t really work, it is a cooling system not really an AC. This wasn’t explained to us until I complained.
  The room was stuffy, the staff brought a fan which was helpful.

  The interior and facilities matches its 5 star rating. Room is spacious and bed is very comfortable. It’s in the middle of city but with window closed, very quiet!
  
  What could be improved: Maybe it’s due to mistranslation: when I booked the hotel, it stated “child stays for free”. My kid is 7 years old, and I need to ask an extra bed, but it’s charged an extra 40 euro. I really don’t mind being charged however the. What exactly it’s for free for a kid to stay then? Using the elevator and water?
  
  The staff is very polite but distant. I don’t want go further why is it so but general feel distant.
