Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about staying on the Reeperbahn, I had my reservations. But St.Joseph Hotel Hamburg completely changed my perspective on what a 3-star place in St.Pauli could actually be like. You know what struck me first? It’s how they’ve managed to create this surprisingly calm bubble right in the heart of all the chaos. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Hamburg’s most famous nightlife strip, but somehow the hotel doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping inside a nightclub.

The thing about St.Pauli is that people either love it or they’re completely overwhelmed by it – there’s really no middle ground. What I appreciated about St.Joseph is that they seem to get this. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with proper soundproofing (trust me, this matters when you’re this close to the action), and honestly, the 8.2 rating makes total sense once you experience it. It’s not trying to be some fancy boutique place, but everything works really well. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – like, really knows it. They’ll tell you which streets to take if you want to avoid the weekend crowds, or point you toward Schulterblatt if you’re looking for something a bit more local than the tourist-heavy spots right outside.

What really won me over was how the hotel feels connected to the Kiez without being consumed by it. You can grab breakfast and plan a totally normal day exploring the Speicherstadt or wandering around Planten un Blomen, but then come back and be ready for whatever St.Pauli throws at you after dark. The location gives you options, you know? Sometimes you want to people-watch the organized chaos of Hans-Albers-Platz, and sometimes you just want to duck into one of those tiny bars on Silbersackstraße that only locals seem to know about. From St.Joseph, both are totally doable. I particularly loved that you could walk to the morning fish market on Sundays – there’s something pretty special about experiencing that Hamburg tradition and then having a comfortable hotel bed waiting for you afterward. It’s this kind of practical magic that makes a 3-star place feel like it’s punching above its weight, especially in a neighborhood where a lot of accommodations feel like afterthoughts.

Hotels in Hamburg offer guests the perfect blend of maritime charm and modern comfort, with many featuring harbor cruise concierge services and traditional fish market experiences to enhance the authentic Hanseatic cultural experience.

Reviews

  • Marian from Germany – 23 April 2025 (8/10)

The location is well located not far from the water. The breakfast is very hearty and diverse.

What could be improved: The staff was too noisy and the check-in receptionist was a bit unfriendly.

  • Michael from Denmark – 19 April 2025 (9/10)

Great Place near everything we wanted to see. 🙂

  • Solomon from Uganda – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

    Everthing was up to point.

What could be improved: Maybe variety for breakfast options a little bit

  • Thomas from Ireland – 30 December 2024 (9/10)

Staff were professional and polite and very helpful and the location was excellent

What could be improved: Everything was fine and I had no complaints whatsoever

  • T from Ireland – 23 November 2024 (8/10)

Very comfy room and has a nice bathroom. Staying in the quiet room made the difference as Reeperbahn can be very loud and crowded at night. Perfect location with a metro station to the airport/central station within a few minutes walk. Ali is a lifesaver and a fantastic staff!

What could be improved: Breakfast is a bit simple but lovely.

  • Cedric from United Kingdom – 21 November 2024 (8/10)

Near U bahn. Good breakfast. Free fruit in reception. Helpful staff.

What could be improved: No tea and coffee facilities in room. No fridge either.

  • White from Switzerland – 29 October 2024 (7/10)

Its located in the Center of entertainment and clubs.

What could be improved: The only disadvantage of the hotel is it’s noisy till late morning.

  • Adnan from Netherlands – 2 October 2024 (9/10)

The staff was very nice and the breakfast was excellent. The coffee was great and the location is good, close to S bahn and other public transport.

  • Michaela from Czech Republic – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

The room was quite well furnished with plenty of storage space. Very good breakfast and friendly staff. Check-out was at 12 o’clock. The location was in a very interesting area (I didn’t know that Reeperbahn Street is a ,,landmark,, in Hamburg). It might not be entirely suitable for families with children, but it’s fine for younger customers. Sometimes we met strange people, but we didn’t feel in danger. However, the location itself is good.

What could be improved: I would also list the location as a negative because we arrived on Sunday at 7 AM and there were still a lot of strange people around the hotel and trash everywhere. However, by 3 PM, there was no sign of it. I missed having a fridge and shampoo in the room (there was one product, but I couldn’t tell if it was soap or shampoo).

  • Michelle from Ireland – 16 September 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Staff could be friendlier..
Breakfast was OK but could do with some pastries..
