Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about THE SCOTTY? It’s actually got personality – and I mean that in the best way possible. Walking into this 4-star spot in Hamburg, I wasn’t expecting much beyond the usual sleek lobby and predictable rooms, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole place. The name alone should’ve tipped me off that they weren’t taking themselves too seriously.
The thing about Hamburg hotels is they either go full maritime kitsch or sterile business vibes, but THE SCOTTY hits this sweet spot somewhere in between. The rooms have this modern comfort thing down without feeling like you’re sleeping in an IKEA showroom. Honestly, the beds are fantastic – I’m talking sink-right-in-and-forget-your-troubles good. And the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which you’d be surprised how often that’s not a given in European hotels. The staff seems genuinely happy to be there too, which makes a difference when you’re fumbling around jet-lagged asking where to find decent coffee at 6 AM.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – it sits in this part of Hamburg where you can actually walk places without feeling like you need a GPS just to find lunch. You’ve got proper restaurants within stumbling distance (and I mean the kind locals eat at, not tourist traps), plus you’re close enough to the action without dealing with the Reeperbahn chaos if that’s not your scene. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me because it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Parking was straightforward – well, as straightforward as parking gets in any German city – and check-in was refreshingly quick. I’ve stayed at places with higher star ratings that felt way more hassle than they were worth, but THE SCOTTY just… works. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, the shower’s hot, and you’re not constantly wondering if you’re missing out on something better down the street. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

The breakfast was the real highlight. Fantastic choice of hot and cold fare. Very attentive chef and breakfast team. And yes an English breakfast on offer!
The rooms are clean although a little dark with black flooring and furniture. A nice hotel.
What could be improved: In a British themed hotel not to have tea making facilities (ok and and coffee for the non Brits) in the rooms seemed a bit strange. Also there was no refrigerator in the room. A roof top bar and sauna are on the website and "coming soon", but the staff cannot tell you when. Management need to communicate that.
The double beds are not double, but single ones pushed together and are not fixed in any way (clamps on the legs…not rocket science) and do not have double toppers. So move apart. A common fault in many hotels which aim to give flexible sleeping arrangementsJuergen from Germany – 1 May 2025 (8/10)
Location, clean rooms, great beds
What could be improved: Parking info on booking.com is incorrect. Breakfast muesli selection could be betterLuzie from Germany – 18 April 2025 (7/10)
Booked without breakfast and had a good experience. The interior design was practical and comfortable. The only problems were the bad shower design (water all over the bathroom floor after just a quick shower) and the broken toilet seat. My room in the fourth floor was clean, quiet (despite school kids screaming outside–so pretty good sound isolation) and cozy without screeching ugly decoration, which I personally really dislike when traveling. Staff was reasonably polite, though not surprisingly friendly or forthcoming. They gave me a hot water kettle upon request and told me they'd fix the broken totilet seat. All in all a pleasant stay, might book this place again in the future.

Close to the railway station and close to the bus stop for line 2 and an underground station. Spacious room.
What could be improved: The layout of the walk-in shower could potentially lead to some flooding of the bathroom.Yvette from Germany – 6 March 2025 (8/10)
Very friendly and helpful staff with everything from recommending a good brunch restaurant because of early check-in to giving safety tips as a solo female walking around at night in the vicinity of the main train station
What could be improved: The shower stall floods water onto the bathroom floor due to an installation problem with contractors. They are resolving this issue, so I am looking forward to returning to this hotelAnders-muc from Germany – 2 March 2025 (7/10)
Very utilitarian business hotel intended for short stays. Modern and comfortable. Clean rooms and very quiet. Check-in and out is very easy.
What could be improved: The area is quite central, which in Hamburg means that you are quite exposed to all sorts of characters around the central station and the area around it.Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (9/10)
Easy access to airport and city via metro system. Could also walk to the city easily. Very clean, large comfortable bed. Good bar with wide range of drinks. Great hotel for a city break.
What could be improved: Shower flooded a littleErdi from Netherlands – 4 February 2025 (9/10)
We really liked the room. It was super clean and organized. The kids also loved the beds and the stay.
The hotel is 1 minute walking from a supermarket which makes it a lot more convenient. Main train station is also 6-7 minutes walking away.
What could be improved: Parking. While we stayed the only 'suggested' option was to use the parking of another hotel across the street, which was 30€ per day.
They suggested not to use the street parking, which was much cheaper. Yet I didn't see any issues with that.Merle from Germany – 3 February 2025 (9/10)
clean, cozy room
