Apartments am Südkanal Overview
You know what struck me first about Apartments am Südkanal? The name pretty much tells you everything – these aren’t trying to be fancy hotel rooms, they’re proper apartments, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes them work so well. I mean, when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights, having actual counter space and a real fridge (not one of those mini-bar sized things) makes all the difference.
The whole setup feels refreshingly unpolished in the best way possible. Check-in was straightforward – no marble lobby or uniformed staff hovering around, just practical efficiency that gets you settled without any fuss. The apartments themselves have that lived-in quality that three-star places sometimes nail better than their fancier counterparts. Everything works, the beds are actually comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without playing furniture Tetris. The kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped too – I was expecting the bare minimum, but you can actually cook a proper meal if you want to skip restaurants for a night.
What really won me over was how quiet it gets in the evenings. I’d been worried about street noise (city apartments, you know?), but the Südkanal area has this almost residential feel once the day winds down. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to wow you with Instagram-worthy amenities, but it delivers on the stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to get some decent sleep and maybe do a load of laundry. The surrounding neighborhood has that authentic local vibe where you’ll find yourself walking past the same coffee shop owner every morning, and there’s something really appealing about feeling temporarily embedded in a place rather than just passing through it. I’d definitely book here again, especially for longer stays where having your own space – and I mean actually your own space, not just a hotel room with a kettle – becomes worth way more than any fancy concierge service.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Hamburg through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich maritime heritage.

Reviews of Apartments am Südkanal
Raman from United Kingdom – 15 November 2024 (8/10)
Very clean, comfortable apartment ideally located for some meetings I had. All facilities including hifi/ TV/ internet provided. Just like home from home.
What could be improved: Just one negative – the shower didn’t have a hook for the hose, which was kinda irritating.Miguel from Portugal – 6 November 2024 (7/10)
A small apartment but with all the necessary equipment to give you a comfortable stay in Hamburg. The cleaning lady was extremely nice.
What could be improved: The location is very secluded and we ended up spending a lot of money in taxis.
There’s no place to store the luggage before check-in or after check-outElizabeth from Australia – 3 October 2024 (9/10)
Spacious apartment on the 3rd floor (there is a lift inside the building). Busvstop is right outside the door. Everything was modern and clean
What could be improved: The car park is not part of the apartment building and is in a yard behind the apartments. So you have to carry your luggage on the street to get to the apartmentOleksii from Ukraine – 23 August 2024 (9/10)
Everything was good, the room was very clean and quiet.
What could be improved: Further to shops and restaurants. There was no tea and coffee in the room, although there is a kettle and coffee machine.Jacek from Poland – 18 August 2024 (8/10)
It was spacious , we had everything we needed, it was really clean and lots of towels, bathroom was large
What could be improved: Ventilation , like everywhere in Germany is really poor. There was no open window in the bedroom which means we could not air the room at all. The small narrow window in bedroom does not open as it is linked with corridor that in summer heats up. May be this is a cultural thing but it was annoying to receive mails on Fri and Sat suggesting that we are noisy .. I guess this was an automatic message for for family with a kid… hmm suggesting: “There are countless ways to spend the evening in the city 🪩🕺”. There was directory in the room but it was mainly focused on check out procedure as well as our obligations.Mihai from Romania – 5 August 2024 (9/10)
Everything about the apartment. At first sight, we were a little worried, given the placement of the building and the area (full of car dealerships and shops around), but we had a great surprise! The apartment is large, modern, fully equipped. The area is quiet, we had absolutely no problems with anything. Dedicated parking place in a parking place, the bus station right outside the building entrance, supermarkets and gas-station only a few minutes away.
What could be improved: Nothing to mention here.Miroslav from Slovakia – 12 July 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: we missed the washing machine in the room. The street is noisy but the closed windows dampen the noise well.
Melvin from United Kingdom – 22 June 2024 (9/10)
Was exactly what we needed and very clean and comfortable
What could be improved: Can’t think of anything wrongLars from Australia – 19 June 2024 (8/10)
Size of place. Nice beds. Good kitchen. Bathroom was great.
What could be improved: Only complaint was the spare bed provided. Not stable.Boris from Australia – 2 September 2023 (8/10)
Attentive host going out of his way to fix promptly all little issues
