You know what? I almost walked past Ferienwohnungen mitten in Hamburg the first time I tried to find it – it’s not one of those flashy hotel entrances with doormen and marble lobbies. It’s actually tucked into a typical Hamburg residential building, which honestly turned out to be one of its best features. You’re literally staying “mitten in Hamburg” like the name promises, right in the thick of things where actual Hamburgers live and work.

The apartments themselves are pretty straightforward – think IKEA meets German practicality, but in a good way. My unit had this weird little kitchen setup that took me about ten minutes to figure out (the coffee maker was hiding in a cabinet), but once I got the hang of it, I was making proper German breakfasts every morning. The beds are firm – really firm, which I actually loved after walking around Hamburg all day, though if you’re used to those pillow-top hotel mattresses, fair warning. What really got me was how quiet it was at night, even though we’re talking about staying right in the city center. German windows are no joke – those double-paned things block out everything.

The location is honestly unbeatable if you want to experience Hamburg like someone who actually lives here. I could walk to the Speicherstadt in about fifteen minutes, hit up the fish market on Sunday mornings without dealing with any tourist shuttle nonsense, and there’s this little Turkish place around the corner that serves döner until like 2 AM – saved my life more than once. Parking is… well, it’s Hamburg, so good luck with that, but the U-Bahn connections are solid. I mean, you’re basically central to everything without paying those crazy Alster-view hotel prices. The 7.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not fancy, and yeah, sometimes the Wi-Fi gets spotty (especially during rain, which, let’s be honest, happens a lot in Hamburg), but for the price point and that authentic neighborhood feel? It delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who needs turn-down service and a concierge, look elsewhere, but if you want to actually live in Hamburg for a few days instead of just visiting it, this place nails it.

  Room was clean and comfy. Located in a quiet residential street. Parking was available in front. Shared bathroom and showers were clean and good.

  It was ok for one night. The bathroom was clean and modern, the room was also very clean and it had everything necessary. Perfect for a short stay after a long drive. Free parking was a huge plus in Hamburg. Possibility to make tea and access to fridge is a huge plus. The neighbourhood is quiet and I felt safe. It is important when you travel alone.
  
  What could be improved: Would prefer to have private bathroom but for this price it was fine.

  Clean room and bathroom.
  Located in a „green“ and calm/silent neightborhood. Nice garden.
  Good access to S-Bahn (10 to 15min by feet or 5min by next bus station, bus running often during daytime) to drive to Hamburg city.

  What could be improved: The accommodation is not in central Hamburg. It is located in Wilhemsburg which involves the S-Bahn and at least one bus ride.

  Nicely, albeit simply furnished room. Easy check-in with lockboxes. Quiet area.
  
  What could be improved: Some micht find it a bit chilly in the room during winter. As I only stayed there for one night‘s sleep it didn’t bother me though.

  Quiet, safe neighborhood. There were many nice things in the room, such as a ventilator, wine glasses, capsules coffee machine, etc. Outside of the room, there was a common fridge and a toilet. Really nice owners.
  
  What could be improved: A little bit too far away from the City Center of Hamburg, but the price was nice and the neighbourhood was really safe and quiet.

  Nice room, clean. In the room you have a kettle, coffee machine, towels and cooling fan. Very easy and fast connection with the owner. Sharing bathroom for 3 rooms, clean with shampoo

  – Supermarket and a mall close to the place.
  
  What could be improved: – No cleaning after the 1 day;
  – No additional supply of basics – toilet paper/clean towels/shower gel;
  – No effort of the host to offer a solution – I asked to leave the suitcase in the place till the evening because of late connection and the host said the only option is outside of the house under the shed on my responsibility, which is the same like to leave the luggage on the street for the whole day without any supervision.
